If it's a small diesel engine, I may just end up not rebuilding my current truck and getting one of those!

 

Diesel engines are a no go in the F150. Committed to Ecoboost according to the Chief F150 Engineer.

 

GM has also called it quits on a diesel half ton.

Only the upcoming redesigned heavy-duty trucks will be offered with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, which continues to be coupled to an Allison six-speed automatic transmission, but no such powertrain will be made available in the Silverado and Sierra 1500—or the new GMT SUVs, for that matter. To do so would require extensive (and expensive) accommodations, and GM suspects few half-ton customers would be willing to dole out the hefty premium for the big Duramax."

If it looks exactly like the concept, it will sell. All the people I talked to like it (some non ford owners) I hope it doesn't have as much rake to the front end, kind of level like the concept, also hope they don't do away with the v8 engine options.

 

Looks more Super Duty-ish.

 

That dual exhaust tip is consistant with the super duty diesels.

 

... which is probably why they used it. They like to grab "other parts" to hide what it will look like.

They also put odd seams in the camouflage to hide the profiles... like the crazy angle on the door windows. Looks all fake to me.

The only thing of interest I saw was the rear window. Looks like they might be making a frameless center section. Maybe it slides down to open?

 

Doesn't look much if any different than the current models from what I see.

 

I agree, Stealth. I hope Ford isn't gonna pull a GM. Does appear to have some Super Duty-esque styling though. Apparently I'm one of only a few that thinks the Atlas concept is God awfully hideous.

I'm interested in how aluminum will play out in all aspects of the truck, but am much more wary than excited.

 

I hate it too.. Atlas does nothing for me

 

I can't wait for it! Aluminum will go over very well in salty climates from harsh winters! Change is good and I'm looking forward to it.

 

of course there is always a good chance that 80% of the truck is current. If they don't have some of the new panels they will throw the old ones on to run other testing.

They just camo the whole thing to keep you guessing.

We will even get cars here where they take the old body panels, cut them, add a couple inches of length and weld it all back together. Its hideous, but it covers up the car and lets them run the testing.

 

Not all change is good haha. It can be in this occasion I suppose. I hadn't thought about rust issues in the north and the gulf, good point.
