Catalytic Converter

The 'PO420 and PO430 Catalyst Efficiency is below threshold on both banks' on my 2013 Ford F150 XLT V8 5.0L 4951CC 302CID truck. I was told by one shop that they weren't able to find replacement parts in After Market. They could only get the parts at dealer. I was also told the catalytic converter parts comes as an assembly, for both sides, from the manifold back past where the assembly comes together for the single exhaust pipeline. Parts from the dealer and labor $4.5K. My truck is running fine, no noticeable performance issues, however, it does have 276K miles on it.

It doesn't seem like a good outlay, even with the mint condition of the truck, unless I can reduce the cost by a 1,000 dollars or so, to say $3,000 give or take.

Any ideas or recommendations on if less expensive parts are available? Will After Market parts work just as well as the parts from the dealer? Are my expectations of $3,000 or so realistic?
Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated.

Your choices in California are limited but Rock Auto has aftermarket CARB compliant converters that are legal if you have the appropriate engine family number. These are legal for DFMXT05.03D7 and you need to replace them to pass smog.

It would be worth a try getting some cat cleaner, there are a lot of different ones on the market. Do a web search for catalytic converter cleaner and read the various reviews. The kits all have fuel additive, some also have a spray you pull the upstream O2 and spray it directly into the cat.

Thanks GLC. I'll try everything suggested. I don't have anything to lose.
