2014 Power door lock problems

I have a 2014 3.5 Ecoboost crewcab. Lately the power door locks on both drivers side doors don't work most of the time with the fob or the switch on the door. I say most of the time because occasionally they will. The power locks work just fine on both passenger doors. The mechanical function of the locks still works just fine. I can pull up the metal rod to unlock and push it down to lock.

I have read about and seen a lot of videos about the wiring breaking in the door harness because it gets pinched or just breaks after thousands of openings and closings. I'm leaning towards thinking it's the wiring and not the actuators since occasionally the doors do sometimes lock or unlock with the fob or switch.

Is it worth it to just buy a new harness instead of trying to splice the wires? I'm wondering if the new harness is improved and isn't as prone to breaking as the original? I have replaced a power window motor before in the 2006 F150 I had and it wasn't that bad of a job, so I'm thinking replacing the harness can't be much worse.
