2010 F150 xlt Instrument Cluster Swap
2010 F150 xlt Instrument Cluster Swap
I purchased the above mentioned truck about a year ago. Currently has 164k on it. My instrument cluster spontaneously died while on a return trip to grocery store. I've done a little bit of research and talked to a few friends, one of whom suggested I swap one out from a similar model from a junkyard. Besides the mileage not being correct, are there any other programming issues I might have to worry about when installing in my truck? And if so, could someone possibly reccommend a good place to have my original cluster cloned to the used one? I appreciate any and all help.

other than the anti theft stuff, and mileage programming
it should be a straight forward swap
probably easier and cheaper to have yours repaired though
still messin with instrument cluster
so, after a couple days, learned aome new things in case anyone is also wondering. IF YOU BUY A CLUSTER, IT DEFINITELY HAS TO BE PROGRAMMED TO YOUR TRUCK, TRUCK WILL NOT START WITH ANOTHER CLUSTER and even though mine is not showing any guage movement whatsoever, truck will still start and run just fine with the original cluster. so im assuming there has to be some power getting to it, as this is a digital information received by the truck, im guessing an antitheft deal. Tested fuse, looks fine, changed anyway, so it seems im dealing with some kind of electrical issue between fuse panel and the pigtail at the cluster. cleaned all connections, but feel like im not getting the right one. does anyone know where the other end of the IC plug goes to?
short somewhere
so, after monkeying around with this IC issue, found that there are actually two fuses that deal with IC. #29 5amp fuse, which was not blown but i replaced anyway. and #26, 10 a, which deals with IC as well as radio display and buttons. found this fuse blown, replaced, and after turning truck on, it immediately blew again. I did put in an aftermarket radio, which required a fuse tap to #41, because Ford does not have a regular radio power acc wire. i highly doubt that the radio is the issue, as its been installed for over a year now, and never had IC issues until now.
so at this time, im suspecting a short somewhere, but thats a lot of wire to check and im not good with electrical diagnosis. gonna use my last resort and call an honest mechanic. I will keep informed for others dealing with this issue.

Solved
The compass module, or FDIM was faulty, shorting out the instrument cluster. Anyone else experiencing dead instrument cluster, and blowing 26, try unplugging the compass module.
Thanks for posting the results of your experience. I’m sure it will benefit others.
