under boost issue - diagnose?

I have a 2014 EcoBoost FX4. Intermittently (but more frequent lately), I have an issue with low-end power. Hard to replicate, but I see it more when entering a hill in town, go to give more throttle to climb or maintain speed. And for first half of throttle, nothing happens. With more gas, it will downshift and take off, then you can feel that normal boost kicks in and you can go. But now faster than you want at more throttle than you should have needed.

During two of these incidents, the engine light came on. Took to shop and was diagnosed with 'under boost' on one side. So guess a turbo issue. But he couldn't;t replicate it that day and nothing else showed anything to fix.

Happened a few times today and light came back on.

Is there a way to to better understand what is happening? Or something cheaper to try as fix before thinking turbo itself?

Throttle just feels like nothing happening and usually this is in the lower gears (maybe because in town and turning up a hill so you let off throttle then back on it. Cruise is fine.)

Thanks! Need help!

Is it throttle response not there or is the motor trying to go and just not doing it.
I read what you said and to me it seems like the foot feed (Drive By Wire) is not talking to the motor until it gets half way down.

Thanks for reply. It is happening more and feeling more like no throttle response. Mostly first half of travel.

Is there a component to check or a cheap part or two to replace to test this without something major first? I don't have any throttle codes, just an underboss sometimes when this happens while under load - like starting to climb a hill.
