2014 Power Steering Problem

I apologize, it's been a few years since I've been back and am rusty at how this forum works. I'm not finding the solution to my problem.

I bought a 2014 F150 XL VIN 1FTMFICMIEKD92759 a year ago with electric steering that worked fine....sorta. At times it would get hard to steer and took both hands to steer, felt like the manual steering on my old '65 F150 and then it'd fix itself, work again, and you could steer it with a finger. It's getting to the point that it has to be fixed. Not only does it feel like an old manual steering system all the time, it's herky-jerky,.....for lack of a better description. It takes both hands with a tight grip, it's getting too dangerous to drive. I'm assuming I need to replace the entire electric steering unit, a $1200 part. I'm here hoping someone can tell me it's just a sensor or some other easy fix...........or to replace it. The steering shaft is fine.

Thanks in advance.
