After market key fobs

I have a 2013 FX4. I bought it new in 2013. My wife is pretty rough on things. She broke the key out of the plastic fob about 4 years ago. I gave her mine and epoxied the broken key back together. Another year and she tells me her remote start no longer works. I take a look and she has driven her thumb nail through the button and destroyed the inner button. Guess she figured if it didn't work with a light touch perhaps pressing harder would work. Eventually she destroyed the unlock button as well and had to use the key. She has been using my key, and last night she wakes me up at 3am when she gets home from work, she dropped the keys and broke my epoxy repair job, plus lost the tip in the snow. I now have both fobs on one ring, one for remote functions and one for the key. Since I have been unable to find indestructable keys, and I have been told by the dealer that by the time you buy and program new keys you are looking at a hefty price tag, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with after market keys I see on amazon?

I recommend going to a local locksmith.

You know, I don't even think there is such a thing around here anymore. Lots of places to get keys cut. Wondering if I can get the button side apart? If I could get the guts out of the one with the broken case, I could make one key out of the 2

There are plenty of locksmiths still around. Go to yp.com and search for them or look in the phone book.

Same issue you had with a 2013 key breaking.

Not the remote start key, but I took the guts out of the OEM key and put into here.
Amazon.com: KeylessOption Just the Case Keyless Entry Remote Head Key Combo Fob Shell: Automotive Amazon.com: KeylessOption Just the Case Keyless Entry Remote Head Key Combo Fob Shell: Automotive

Remote start from same supplier:
Amazon.com: KeylessOption Keyless Entry Remote Uncut Blank Ignition Key Blade Fob Shell Case Cover Buttons for F-150 F-250 Explorer Edge: Automotive Amazon.com: KeylessOption Keyless Entry Remote Uncut Blank Ignition Key Blade Fob Shell Case Cover Buttons for F-150 F-250 Explorer Edge: Automotive

The locksmith is the way to go as ManualF150 and GLC stated. As you noted the dealer wants $$$. $300 for a similar OEM Jeep key, and I've had a locksmith do the same car with their supplied aftermarket key for $100. If the locksmith has the key fob, they should be able to do it.

I'll have to call around. The nearest lock smith for me is 2 and a half hours away. I let you know what I find. Thanks. Not sure if any of you saw my IWE question, but I found my vacuum leak, It was in the reserve tank.

Key duplicate

I went to the local Lowe's to have my F150 key duplicated. They placed the key in a machine that read it, then programmed that info. in the new replacement "head", then cut the teeth. It starts the truck fine. I'm not sure if this will help.
Good luck

same thing happened to me. I just bought a fob on Amazon for $13 and programmed it myself following the instructions. Yes, I now have a key AND a fob on my ring but it’s a lot cheaper and easier than the alternative
