No 4x4 low!

So I shifted into 4x4 low. The display read “shift delayed, pull forward”. So I did. I heard a slight ping and a grind. 4x4 low no longer engages. 4x4 high still does.
I have a 2014 f150 supercrew 5.0L.
many suggestions?

Do you have it in neutral with your foot on the brake?

Imagine if that was actually the problem? Yes. I’ve put it in neutral with the brake applied. Any other suggestions?

If it goes into 4H then clearly the hubs are working.. There's a motor on the transfer case that engages it and when not used regularly tend to bind up and not fully swing in. I found on my 10 that I bought recently it sort sounded similer to yours. Repeated entry and exit attempts seemed to move it eventually. It now seems to go into 4L fully with no drama.

This is all assuming you do in fact get 4H and not just an indicator saying it does (IE slowly turn a circle on pavement and see if it binds, if not it didn't actually engage 4H)

Thanks Greg. Since the post I did manage to get it into 4L once. I haven’t tried it to many more times just in case it doesn’t come out. 2H-4H works great no problems. And yes it does go into 4H. I’ve seen the front wheels spin on ice and snow. I think if I can exercise it in and out of 4L it may just fix itself
