Thoughts/Opinions/Concerns

Lurker for a few weeks as I’m in need of a new car. Always wanted a truck so here’s my chance. There’s a 2012 XLT 5.0 4x4 screw at a local mom and pop dealer. One owner, really clean inside and out, drives smooth, has about 115k miles.

I’ve read over the thread regarding the Advancetrac issue, so I’m a bit concerned there - but it seems the majority of vehicles affected, at least on this site is -100k miles.

also, on the car fax, it lists

“Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Program issued
Program #19N01 TRANSMISSION MOLDED LEADFRAME
EXTENDED COVERAGE”

then some days later it was serviced as a ford dealership. So im assuming that was fixed. I’ll inquire about that tomorrow.

any other red flags about this model truck that I should be aware of? I was also going to see what kind of extended warranty I can get through dealer - as I only need the truck for a couple years, then will trade it in for a newer model. Any thoughts on extended warranty companies?

Thanks in advance!

matt

The only one worth anything is a Ford ESP.

The molded frame was a recall for a transmission issue. Ford does a fix but had to cover something else with the warranty extension. I had it done on my 2013. Iirc the speed sensor could loose its signal so the computer would think the truck was stopped and downshift to 1st gear at any speed. The fix was a computer reflash but the warranty covers hard parts and labor if there is still a problem.
