2010 F150 Sync Update Sucess Story
Greetings All,
Not sure where my old registration info went but I am a newbie again!
My 2010 F150 Lariat without NAV. I switched from a Samsung S5 to a moto g7 recently.
Sync would not read my text messages out loud like my S5 would. g7 running Android Pie (9.0)
I set out on a mission to find out if a new level of SYNC was available. What a mess, all the Ford links are new and don't resemble the old Syncmyride I used in the past. Now you must register and use https://owner.ford.com/
Got past that, now I search and can only find Sync3 and My Ford Touch info. Now I go to chat and phone calls yesterday.
I received info on how to do a SYNC3 update that should work on my truck. Sat in hot sun with engine running trying to read USB stick into system. No luck,
Call the dealer today to see if they could tell if my software level was the latest, Service writer said no info available but for $150 they could connect to their computer to my truck and verify. I said no thanks!
Chat session with another Ford Sync person today. Voila Magic Moments!!! The SYNC3 version is correct for our trucks even though I was told by more than 1, I needed Generation One SYNC code.
Here is what I learned, A USB2.0 type stick has to be used. USB3.0 will not work.
2gb in size minimum formatted to FAT32, not exFAT32 as web instructions say.
Downloaded file should be DE8T-14D544-AD, download to hard drive.
Open downloaded file with Explorer and extract 3 files to USB stick,
Only the SYNCMyRide folder, Autoinstall.lst and Install.lst should be on USB stick.
Follow instructions to install update.
Truck must be running during entire process. about 20 min
Plug in USB stick
Press Phone, scroll to Return
Press OK
Scroll to Advanced, press OK
Scroll to Install Applications, press OK.
Display should say installing applications after a few minutes. Listen for final msg from SYNC saying update complete and you can use it.
I deleted my Bluetooth devices and connected it again. System now asked if I wanted to authorize message use.
Messages now can be read out loud and replied to.
Another benefit is Bluetooth music now displays artist and song instead of just Bluetooth Device.
Worth the hassle I think! Good luck to all.

My display is just the 2 line type. Displays song and artist now instead of just Bluetooth Audio. No Apple or Android play feature. I still am better off. Also less voice commands to get around existing features.
I can confirm that this worked for me as well on a 2010 F150 Lariat without NAV. I did have to search for the filename as I couldn't find it on the ford website.... also tried a few other random filenames that I had found and those other filenames did not work (I assume they are for other variations of the product).
The only issue I had was the first USB stick I tried had multiple partitions on it... once I went back to a regular one with one partition that was formatted as FAT32, it worked perfectly and took about 10 minutes.... it is weird when the radio comes back on and you can't tell if it is still doing things, but eventually it goes back to the phone menu (two different times if I remember right) and will then say Installation Complete.
