2011 F-150 5.0L Engine knock
At 120,000 miles the engine developed a clicking in the #8 cylinder that made it sound like a diesel. THe dealership mechanic tore the engine down 3 times thinking it was related to the cylinder head. After much trial & error, we noticed that the middle 2 inches of the cylinder was egg shaped from improper cooling. It didn't really burn any oil to speak of but the noise would prevent it from being sold/traded-in. We had to replace the entire engine at $8500. Apparently this isn't a new problem for 5.0L engines from 2009-2014 because the engine casting didn't allow for enough water flow around that cylinder. My dealership couldn't be more accomodating toward me but this really hits me hard. Shouldn't Ford pick up at least a part of the bill?
