Smile running board doing it's own thing

Here is my issue; the DRIVERS SIDE retractable running board has been acting up, the passenger side works fine.

This is what it does/is doing;

1. Dashboard display message staying on showing - "left rear door ajar" The door is closed tight, and not ajar.

2. When the truck is off, and the doors are closed the step is extended.

3. When the truck is running, doors closed and not moving the step is extended.

4. When the truck is running and moving forward the step retracts.

5. When the truck is running and comes to a stop such as a sign the step extends.

6. When the truck is then moved forward from a stop the step retracts until the next time it stops, then it extends again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try looking at the wire loom coming into the door
If that is not it then it is more than likely a bad sensor, since the truck thinks the door it open it keeps coming down when it is below a certain speed.

check it.

I have checked the wires inside the rubber boot between the door post and the door. There was some tear in the boot but the wires were in good condition. I did take off the door panel and test the continuity of all the wires back to each connection to the door lock. I could not find a wire connect to any type of sensor. I can only think that there might be a sensor in the door post. Any Help would be appreciated.

The Sensor is in the door latch itself I do believe.
