2011 F150 3.5 EB Hard Shift into 2nd

Hi everyone. I've searched as many threads as I could find and haven't found anyone the same situation. As far as I know, my trucks PCM has never been reflashed. It has always ran good, great MPG, great power etc... However, I would get the occasional very hard shift into 2nd gear, and also very hard sudden downshifts while on the freeway. It only happened every other month or so. After seeing the TSB 13-1-7, I had brought it to the dealer on two separate occasions hoping to get it flashed and see if it stops hard shifting, thinking that may be causing damage. The dealer couldn't replicate the issue, so they wouldn't flash it. I'm have like 6 months left of premium care coverage, so I want to take care f this issue before it expires.

Recently, the low speed 2nd gear hard shift started happening more frequently, like once a week. And the hard freeway shift happened to my wife when she was driving with the kids and scared the crap out of her. I called the service manager and worked out a deal to reflash the PCM according to the TSB even if they couldn't replicate the shifting behavior, and I would pay my $100 deductible.

They did the reflash yesterday. I dont know the strategy code. Not only did it not stop the hard shifts, it shifts hard into 2nd EVERY SINGLE TIME. It now also shifts really hard downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Shifting to 4th now also is hard as well.

Has anyone else experienced this? I plan to go back to the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they can flash it back, or at lest try an older newer one. If that doesnt fix it, what other recourse do I have? At this point, its practically undriveable and I worry that each shift is causing more and more unnecessary wear.

Thanks,
Dan

d-dubya;

I have the random hard 1-2 shift also. And, a terrible 6-4 downshift in traffic, sometimes on up-shift 4-5 as well. I have heard several explanations, none very helpful. None that were curable short of a complete rebuild, a huge expense I would like to avoid if possible. The biggest issue seems to be that the accumulators are not metal springs in our trannys, they are rubber "bumpers" that get hard over time. The newer model years of our trucks with the 10 speed went back to good old metal springs. The tranny rebuilder i spoke with extensively also happened to mention that when they rebuild our 6 speed, the new accumulator parts are back to real metal springs. lucky us!!

I will be watching this thread carefully.

Quick update. I brought it back in the dealership with the same complaint. They acknowledged that they felt it this time, and took it for the day. The paperwork says they reset the adaptive shift tables and put it through some driving procedure. It still didn't stop the problem, but it decreased the severity of the shifting. Its still annoying, and people still comment on it, but at least it doesn't feel like the truck is getting rear-ended. It does seem to almost disappear after the transmission fully warms up.

I'll bring it back in a few more days if it doesn't go away. It still seems like they should do something about it. I'll update again if and when anything changes.
