"Out in gear"? What does that mean?
I know that there's some kind of optional plugin module under the tray on the top of the dash that has to be present to make the head lights come on any time that the truck is running. It's an option in the US but I think it's standard equipment in Canadian models. I don't think think that the Day Time Headlights can be programmed off. I think you have to remove that module.

Is there not a fuse you could pull? I know on my 98 Chevy I had a fuse for the DRL's. Pulled that and no more lights.

Dealer wants to charge me $125 to turn off mine.. truck is US built sold in Canada and resold in the US mines a 2012 drls are wired differently 2012 and up all integrated in the BCM now *** soon as the truck goes in gear lights turn on I'm looking to change lights to led but don't want them burning all the time debating if I should dig more of just bite the bullet and have the dealer do it
I see folks talk about turning these off on a regular basis, my questions is why?? I am in risk management and know the long term value of DRL's. Easy thing that happens automatically and reduces crash rates in the 30% range long term. Especially helpful in preventing left turn crashes. The fuel cost is minimal as all the parts involved are already turning whenever the engine is running.
I just wonder why you want them off. Not preaching, I really don't care, but i just want to know the reasoning behind the "want" to turn them off.

I'm aways around everything needing to be safe. Health and Safety is constantly being drilled into our heads working in Aircraft Maintenance.
As for the DRL the always ON was a safety feature when it first came out. Its time is gone when everyone has them ON they become not noticed as much now. Myself I notice Cars & Trucks without them ON more than with.
Worked great for a time but not so muck now.

Everyone is different everyone has their own preference... I for one just don't like drls never struck me as an ok look but that's just me... plus I'd prefer the parking lights with dogs certain times of the day *** well as I'm going to do an leds swap on all the lights eventually already started and I'd rather not have the lights on all the time
