Your 08 4.6 doesn't have cam phasers and uses a regular spark plug so It doesn't have those problems like the 3V 5.4. If you decide to keep your current truck the 4.6 should last a long time.
If you do get a 2011+ truck you'll be surprised how far they've come from the 04-08's. As long as you check it over well you should be good with any engine you get.
