Question

Well, I don't know how the VT's will react on your truck. But, I had a '94 T'bird with the 4.6. It sounded awful with the VT's on it. First, I had a custom cat back exhaust built for the T'bird shortly after I bought it (2002). It was from the stock resonator back, with Dynomax Bullet glass packs, and it sounded great. Nice burble at idle, and that nice glass pack sound when I got on her. On the T'bird the mufflers are at the rear of the car at the valance. But after 8-9 years it was time to replace it. So I bought a dual exhaust system built by Mandrel Exhaust systems. It was a custom built system for the T'bird with high flow cats, and Magnaflow resonator with the internal X-pipe. But I had to buy my own mufflers. I went with a set of the Dynomax VT mufflers. It wasn't what I was hoping for. In fact I didn't like it at all. It was quiet at idle, like stock. But when I got down on her, all I got was a hideous "Rush" sound, like you get when a weld is leaking in the system. I had it checked and there were no leaks. The theory behind the VT is that a valve is suppose to be forced open with the higher exhaust flow from when you tramp down on her, creating a nice sound and performance. I had better performance, which I attributed to the exhaust as a whole. But the sound wasn't there. It took some of the joy away I got from driving it. I can't say how it will react in your situation, but for me, they su**ed.
