New old guy

Hi guys. Being new to the site I hope to pick up some useful advice and tips from some other do-it-yourselfers.
I recently purchased a 2012 Ford F150 4x4 XLT with about 80,000 miles on it. I notice a leak at the thermostat end of the upper radiator hose. The parts list shows an O ring washer in the fitting at that end but there was not one in there. I purchase one and in putting in place I am unable to compress the washer by hand strength to be able to install the spring clip retainer. Is there a tool used to compress the fitting and install the spring clip retainer?

Welcome to the site! I'm going to move your post to another forum where you should get more help.

Judging the book by it's cover

And here I was thinking you were referring to someone like me, who hasn't been on the site for quite a while.....and now all of the names are new and I guess I am too.

As for the thermostat, see if this video gives you any insight. Pertinent info starts at about 3:30.
