keyless entry factory code does not work - keypad ?

hello all ,, I picked up a 2010 screw with the keyless entry system,,, I tried using the key code on the card that came with the manual/truck but it does not work ? -- the 1/2 button does not light up when pressed but all the others do -- 7/8 and 9/0 will lock so the mechanism seems to work -- the factory code does not have a 1/2 in it - so I am out of ideas for trouble shooting -- any ideas ? thanks

Since the 1/2 button does not light up, you need to have the keypad replaced anyway. Also you failed to mention what trim level the truck is. FX2/4's and up got the keypad standard and XLT's it was an option. The reason I mention this is if the truck is an XLT, the previous owner may have added the keypad and never got it working. If that is the case then you need to go to the dealer and have it programmed.

Congrats on the new truck, hayseed! It sounds like there's a trip to the dealership in your future; I'm sure they'll get this straightened out for you. How many miles are on your rig?

its a lariat model so its standard issue -- 55k on it with the drivetrain expiring in OCT... nice truck just trying to get the little stuff straightened out -- yeah I was afraid that I would be needing a trip to the dealer -- double checked the code under the kick panel also to be sure -- oh well - could be worse .... thanks for everyone's help - I am sure I will need some more !

You can check to see if the BCM is programmed correctly for the keypad by pressing 7/8 and 9/0 to see if the doors lock. If they lock, the BCM is set up.

With a dead button though, I wouldn't rule out a bad keypad. Replace that first.

With the VIN number, you can get the as-built data, which will tell you if it was a factory option or not. Just look at the BCM (726) address 15. That will tell the story.

I *thought* that the way the keypads break down is as follows:

-2010 is plug and play
2011-2013 needs to have it enabled in the BCM
2014+ doesn't have the harness and would need to be added, and enabled in the BCM
