whats lays beneath

Have a 2014 STX 3.7. Was wondering if anyone knows what may be under the dash top bucket?? Was thinking about drilling holes in it,, but have no idea what is under it. Looks to me the radio or the display for radio is close to it??

thanks marc

I think it just clips in, pull it up and have a look.

Better yet pop it out and drill it out of the truck

Thought about that. but its hard to know when to much force is being applied and something breaks!!! Along with not knowing how it is in there!!

thanks

So, you'd risk drilling blindly into something vital and expen$ive, rather than spending a little time figuring out how to remove it ( and possibly break something a lot less expen$ive )?

Drilling it will render it worthless anyway ....

Try scrutinizing the exploded parts views on FordParts.com, etc.

And - take good ol' Patrick's advice.

Or just ask your friendly forum Ford parts guy for an illustration.

Looks to me like there should be a few screws holding it in.

First I don't really like automotive versions of exploded parts, they leave little to be desired in showing everything in a meaningful sense.

Second, I thought about drilling it but I didn't know what was underneath it. so here I am asking what lies beneath it.

But if I was a Hillbilly from who knows where I might have done what you talk about MGD Fan.

I was thinking about using Velcro instead of drilling it, I am thinking Velcro is questionable in its ability to hold equip. in place. But that's the fun of modifying something the UNKNOWN!!!!!!!

I tried to pop it out but it didn't want to coop with it. So I stopped playing with it, or I could've like I said just put a lot of force to pop it out and broke it and really be riding that brown creek everybody HATES.

thanks

That's amazing someone at FORD had the idea of actually having a second connection set-up for a USB on their trucks. Or was it Microsoft???

The reason I asked about the space underneath the bucket is a rearview/frontview camera display mount place.

This is why I was wondering about what lays beneath. As you can see I didn't drill thru the mat. I am thinking about drilling another hole for the video cord,, to hide better. Only drilled two holes to hold it down.

The hardest part was getting the video cord thru to the display in the cab.
