I learned that early on with my '09 - now with any other vehicle I have to start it twice - first time I just bump the key......

UPDATE.....

A good friend of mine has a 2014 Taurus and a 2012 Fusion. Both cars have the "computer assisted cranking system".

The manual for his '14 Taurus says the same thing as the manual for my '13 F150..."Release the key when the engine starts".

But the manual for his '12 Fusion talks about the computer assisted cranking system and describes how it works.

It's funny to me how his older, cheaper car mentions it in the owner's manual...where as the more expensive vehicles do not.

BTW...he had never heard of this before either. Like me, he has always turned the key to the start position and released it when the engine starts...like every other vehicle I have owned. Learn something new every day .
