Diag. help needed - gear shift tow/haul button wiring check?

Long time reader, first time posting.....Long story but I had my transmission rebuild finished on an insurance claim about 4 weeks ago.

Just last week I noticed that the tow/haul button on the side of the shifter doesn't work anymore (I noticed this when pulling a car trailer so it wasn't a pleasant surprise). I took it back to the dealership who did the work and their written diagnosis is "miscellaneous shifter assembly bad" and want about $500 to repair and replace it. I declined at this time for a variety of reasons.

I can certainly replace the gear shift lever myself but I don't want to "throw parts at it" without a confirmed diagnosis that the button is the problem.

Last night, I pulled the console and found the green wire and conx from the tow/haul button.
What should the ohm-output be from the button side when the button is depressed? Mine doesn't make any contact unless I REALLY MASH it as hard as possible (definitely WAY more than it used to take to activate) and then it reads 0.5 ohm. What should it read when depressed once?

Also, in case it isn't the button.... what should the harness-side of the connector read? If I 'short' across the harness-side (black/white wires), should the tow/haul function activate?

What is the Factory diagnostic procedure for this?

Thanks for any help, I'm not happy with my local dealership right now.

This is all I want for Christmas!
