Painting Bumpers

Anyone had any luck painting bumpers? Would like to match my bumpers up with the rest of my truck (white).

Chrome needs to be sandblasted off down to bare metal, then painted. I'm considering going with painted bumpers myself or going with aftermarket steel ones, and I will be scooping a set from a junkyard or Rockauto if I go the paint matched route.

I have access to a sandblaster, just think it's a waste.

Before you jump to painting your bumpers, have you thought about stone chips? Take a look at even a factory painted bumper with a few miles on it. You'll be horrified at the number of stone chips you'll see on the front bumper. Oh and up here where we use road salt, every one of those chips will start to rust in no time flat. Chrome plating on the other hand is much harder than any paint and thus holds up much better.

Just thought you might want to know.

Even so....Chrome looks Cheap IMHO!
Back in the day the higher end models had the chrome...but in todays market its the lower end trucks that use the cheap chrome!

Its worth the switch I think!

Not Really.. The Stx has ptm bumpers, Xlt has Chrome and Lariats have Chrome.. I dont think a 45k Lariat would be classified as lower end trucks.

But i do agree these trucks have to much chrome on them, i hate all the chrome on my truck but have sent numerous emails to body shops and they all say they will not warranty the work and cant say how long it will look good using the chrome bumpers

I don't mind the chrome bumpers. I think they look pretty sharp actually. The chrome in the grille is a bit much though. But what I really dislike is when people ADD chrome. Stick-on chrome door handles and mirror caps and other tacky chrome accessories are awful.
