Rear defroster help

Would anyone know if there was a scratch in the strands of the wire on the rear window would that stop the defroster switch light from coming on.
I took by 2011 into the dealer in spring and told him my heated side mirrors and rear defroster were not working.
he replaced some module and now the side mirrows work. he said the rear had broken or scratched lines in the grid.
I have checked every line and there are some scratches but no broken ones.i have checked for voltage on each line at the start and end and everyone is good.
He started that with a broken grid line the light wouldn't come on and I think he is crapping me.
I think I used to hear a click when I turned it on but hear or feel nothing from the switch.
I am taking it back but want to be prepared for his response
thanks Mike
it does have voltage
