If it makes you feel better, back when I was right out of college I took my Dodge (yeah I was young and dumb) into the shop for what turned out to be a bad alternator. A week later I found out the hard way they removed the clips on my radiator hoses...while leading my grandfather's funeral prosession! Barely made it to the cemetary and had to leave it there until the next day. That was the moment I decided to never trust someone else to fix my vehicle. I've been to a shop twice in the past 10 years, once to get exhaust welded by a guy I knew well, and a few months ago to get a trans rebuild under warranty. Both times I went over the truck with a fine tooth comb when I got home.

I actually mark the oil filter to make sure its been changed. I know one time it was not because it was dirty as hell when I picked up the truck..

im capable and have friends who are definatly capable to do just about anything outside of a dealership. however, again, they can try to deny anything they want when a warranty item comes up. I normally pop the hood 1x month just to look things over. however less than two weeks from last 'service' . def going to speak with a manager. a lot of good that will probably do.

I do all of my own stuff to avoid this. And even if I screw up at least there is no one to blame. You hear a lot of horror stories but the volume that they do in a day or a year the percentage is probably quite small. I hear stories of people never opening their hoods. That's crazy. And yes the way these air boxes are you were probably sucking in infiltered air.

The filter box latches were missed TWICE. Once by the dealership, once by the owner.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...
You should NOT have to double check the work done by a Ford dealership service department.
This is ridiculous to suggest that its the OP's fault.

If there is double-checking required, then the service department manager should double check the work before approving the job as complete.

I met with a 'manager' of some type in the service dept.. Didn't even offer his name as I shook his hand.. nice

he said they were made aware of the issue by the sales man. not the service writer who I normally deal with- whom I called as soon as I realized what happened.nice

he spoke with their lead tech- also their diesel tech. he did come out and take a look with a flash light and also swabbed the air intake. he said if there was a ton of grit and or dirt in there, he could see it causing issues. that it has happened before on other vehicles where the air boxes and or other intake components would come un done in other models and other model year vehicles.

I let them know my main issue and cause of concern was with their customer service side of things. he seemed to generally listen to about 10 percent of what I had to say. which is typical.

I have an extended warranty. if the turbos end up going out ill reference this and go from there.

I also pointed out the other things which I have been complaining about from 17K miles on - like the rear window- slider not closing. having to flip the button 10x a second until it moves. I showed the 'manager' and the main 'tech' the tech told me " yea we have had a few go bad' ok. Ive reported this problem the past 5 oil changes. maybe someone can take me seriously the next time.

and the truck still also smells like cattle crap when the AC starts up in the morning. which they said no one has reported that as they laughed.....

for now I guess ill just drive it.
