Which is better for me?

I have done a lot of reading and searching and still undecided guys....
Trading in my 2012 XLT 5.0L w/3.55sfor a 2014 Fx4.
Staying with the SuperCREW but going with the Ruby Red.

Which motor do I get!? Ecoboost w/3.55 or 5.0L w/3.73 for MY situation?

Don't currently tow but in the next 4yrs will be towing a boat and a 2 horse trailer. I drive mainly back and forth to work 10mi a day and on the weekends head up to the mtns camping on the weekends. once every 3 months I take a rd trip to Ohio from Missouri 11hr drive with the wife and not towing anything.

I want to run a 3" ICON coil over setup with true 35" tires. Im not racing (I have a mustang for that) but will be four wheeling on occasion.

SO....
thoughts!?

What Im going for:

Why do you want to trade in your truck? Thought it was a Raptor, then decided current was best so you dumped a bunch of money into it, then thought about a Jeep. Personally, I see this as lateral-grading, not upgrading. So I say none.

If I have to pick one, just go EB cause it's something different. I really say to just hold out for a wee bit longer and get a '15 if you must get something new. Just a few months away and it would be a justified change. Just from what I know from you, you change vehicles with great frequency, so as soon as you get a '14, you're probably gonna want a '15 after a few months.

I will say the Ruby Red looks good with BMFs and Toyos

Neither, if you are going to be towing and putting 35's on it. Order a HD Payload with 4.10's.

Eco with 3.73's....

Between the two engines, decide if you want the growl of a good ol' V8 or a quiet, but very strong turbo V6...

This is my first V6 EVER and I miss the V8 sound, but the power this Eco has is more than making up for the sound... The quiet side is actually growing on me and I'm liking it... Roll the windows down and the sound of those twin turbos winding up when you get into it is very cool!

I agree with KMAC and you should just wait for the 15's to come out and get the next gen F150...

The real difference in what you are thinking of is color and a center console gear shift and a bit fancier interior...

Good luck!

Mitch

I say the Eco. Main reason is if you go with the lift and tires you will want the extra low rpm torque that the eco has to offer, plus it helps when towing. Only reason not to wait for the 15 model is you can get some killer deals on the 14 models. Right now i know of 3 dealerships offering 11 to 13500 off 14 models already. Doubt there will be that good of rebates on the 15 for a while. But if your not very concerned money wise then wait for the 15 model.

Thanks for the input guys....
KMAC: I do go through vehicles fairly often, but the Mustang I have now will be my LAST NEW Mustang and I will be keeping it for a while!
The truck purchase I'm looking into now will be much the same...my LAST NEW truck.
I retire in 3 yrs and Im trying to get setup with what I need for a while.

I really liked the 2015s when I first saw them and thought it would take nothing to get it to look like an ATLAS. But the cost of them I fear will be WAY up there with the aluminum body, new styling and redesign. Hence getting a 2014 hold over or lightly used 2013. I can not do anything until I return to the states in Aug anyhow.

I would not mind keeping my truck, but I know its not THE truck I really want for multiple reasons so m not going to go down that rd again. *(I had a 2012 mustang and dumped a bunch of money into it trying to make it the car I really wanted....it was never going to be that so I traded it in on the car I have now....THE one I REALLY wanted to begin with)

It may only be a color/console change to you guys...but to me it is: Painted bumpers, Factory NAV, Leather and most of all a CLEAN SLATE!

Yup, still think the '15s are really ugly I know they'll grow on me though. I don't particularly care for the 9-14s either though, so I'd rather have a 15 vs. a 14

You're just jealous because your truck is outdated. J/K

I think mine is ugly compared to the ~'78 body style. The newer the uglier IMO Mine is 8 years old now though.

After Googling to verify the years, I would totally give up a nut for a 73-79 crew cab, then stuff a 12V Cummins into it

I kind of agree because the 78-79 is my favorite (looking) body style. But after driving them for several years and after recently driving my friend's 79, I sure don't miss driving them. They aren't comfortable and they are more work than they are fun to drive.

Like this one? He put a 7.3 in it though.

7.3 works fine with me! If I didn't already have a truck and could afford to be constantly tinkering with it, I'd drive the mess outta that truck! I'd prefer a crew, but I really just need that backseat, and I like how those old 3 doors look compared to the new ones.

I'd love to do a full 4-link/coilover/whatever to one on all 4 corners, but that's big money of course. I wonder how it would ride with just all new Atlas leafs, and power steering, etc. Just update all the suspension and steering bits.

I'd have to add the following to get the truck to where I would want the new truck to be:

NAV: $1000
Leather: $550
3.73 Gears: $1500
Tailgate w/Step: $600
Power Fold Mirrors: $800
Painted Bumpers F&R: $750
TOTAL: $5100

Not to mention the other mods I want to do, but would probably do anyways with the new truck.
