Sound but no display?

2013 Screw. No display at all.

Today when I started the truck and turned on the radio I noticed I have no display other than the generic screen which shows date, time and the "Ford" emblem. The radio works and am able to hear sound, but no display. I'm able to switch from radio to Sirius fine and can change channels with my presets, although I can't go from Sirius 1 to 2 to 3 etc.. but no display of anything but the generic screen. None of the other options display when pressed either (Menu, aux etc..). Seems it will change to the whatever you select, just that there is no display?

Shut the truck off and restarted no difference. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Any ideas?

What does it do when you push the DISP button? Is the arrow available on the lower left of the screen?

No "DISP" option on my system.

Believe it or not, I just went out and started the truck after having it sit for a couple hours and now it works. At least for the moment??

Not sure what would could have caused this though.

I know this was also a problem with late 90s Explorers, only the problem was with the display and the DIY fix was usually fixed by checking/repairing the solder connections on the display circuit board…much the same as with the Super Duty overhead displays that stopped working; although they sometimes required new resistors too. This is to be expected when the manufacturers beat down the suppliers to provide parts more inexpensively in order to maximize profits. They last just long enough to get out of the B-to-B warranty.

Cutting corners on quality never leads to anything good and only hurts your reputation in the long run. Some lessons must be learned the hard way.

how long was the truck off before you had the problem? (multiple days???)
Did it start rough?

Maybe you had low voltage in your battery and that caused the display problem.
After running the truck awhile the alternator charged things up and on the re-start it worked OK.

Just a theory.

Do you have MFT? Are you running the latest update?

Hi, birdshooter -

I'm glad it's working now, but I'd certainty like to look into this further. Do you know which software version you're running? If not, shoot me a PM with your VIN and I'll find out.

Jaclyn
