2013 Lariat 4x4 vibrations

Supercrew 6.5 bed,3700 miles stock bridgestone 20's. I get vibrations that I can feel in the seat when decelerating to 20mph, then it stops. Can also feel it when driving between 20-50 intermittently. Not as noticeable when accelerating. I know the 55's wont ride as good as the 18's on my last truck but this is pissing me off. Had the tires balance twice and they have been rotated. The 20 mph thing worries me as it is quite noticeable. Calling the dealer on Monday. Any ideas?

Does it go away when you turn left or right? I wonder if you have a bad wheel bearing. I had a few and they never made much noise but did cause vibration. The "visual" inspection they perform is a joke. Visually they cleared me two times on a bearing issue but when they checked on it further after I was persistent, it was indeed bad.

I have a 13 6.5 5.0 super cab smooth as glass only I have the 18" AS tires I would not have the 20's on a truck, I have 4500 mi. would not think wheel bearings at that mileage as they r permanently packed unless u have been in major mud

foxer,

My name is Ashley and I'm the new Ford Customer Service rep here on the forum. I know you posted this a couple weeks ago; were you able to get it addressed at your dealer? If not, send me a PM with your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info. I'll see how I can help.

Ashley

Took it to the dealer I purchased the truck from . The tech and the service advisor both drove and told me it was smooth as glass. Drove it home and noted the vibration wasn't nearly as bad, almost gone. Later that day it was back. Odd that Ford knows this is an issue and they didn't bother to check the drive line angle or anything. I am debating on getting some 18 " tires / wheels like my 2011 had. Drove smooth and no issues. I have had the tires balanced twice and they have been rotated as well. Same issue which leads me to believe its not wheel/tire related.

I have a 2013 same as you but with the eco-boost motor. Mine has had a vibration since new, mostly at 58-60 mph and 70-75 mph. Feels like tires are not balanced(it has been balanced once and road force balanced 3 times) still the same. It has been in 5 times. The last visit, the shop foreman drove it and was able to reproduce the vibration. They say several other new ones are doing the same thing as well as the service manager's personal truck. He called Ford Tech Help and was told that, " this is a characteristic of this truck" and there is no fix. GM of dealership has been really nice, but they don't know what to do. This truck rides worse than my 05 supercrew 4x4 that I traded in. I have noticed that the vibration is worse on a full tank, and I have the 37 gallon tank.
I am supposed to be getting a call about this, from Ford on Monday.
Thanks,
JSS

The Ford Rep did call. She extended my warranty and is setting up a second opinion at a different dealership. I told her my dealership was great, but when they called the Ford tech line, they were told it is a characteristic of the truck and there is no known fix. I have a hard time with that when you have a sticker price at $52,000, and the one I traded in (2005 Lariat Super Crew 5.4 - 4x4) rode better than the new one ever has ridden.

I have discovered that over the last two months the vibration is worse with a full tank of fuel. I do have the extended capacity fuel tank, I think 37 gallons. The vibration shows up in the passenger seat.

It sounds like you're in good hands, Stoke. Be sure to come back and tell us what the second dealership has to say. Thanks for the update!

Axle Wrap

The length and softness of the rear springs causes some axle wrap. It can get extreme when you are towing heavy weights (and a full tank of gas is some extra weight as well). some people solve it with a set of roadmaster springs:

roadmaster

I have airbags installed and don't notice it at all anymore, even towing our travel trailer.

Other choices to help out are add-a-leaf type setups:

add a leaf

Some people have had some success by adding spring clamps to the ends of the unsupported leaves to provide some additional stability.

I was supposed to take it in last week for a second opinion, but had to delay the appointment. Hopefully they can get me in this week.

Tcp2,
The dealer asked if I had hauled any heavy loads. The only load I've carried is a scoop of topsoil. I didn't notice any change. I've also towed a 22' skiff that is pretty tounge heavy, no problems there either. That was a highway trip 3 hours each way.

I still think it may be my tires. On colder days (20's in the mornings) after the tires warm up, I don't seem to feel it as bad. On warm afternoons 50-60's, it shows back up again. I know it sounds crazy but it is true. I've noticed my front left tire seems to be wearing more on the outside edge, and I'm real strict about rotating them. This truck has never been as easy to drive as my 2005. The new one, while it will track straight on a level road, wants to "wander" more than my old one, especially if there is any cant on the highway.

I will update after the secon opinion.
Thanks,
JSS
