Huh, we don't think I got/did a DV claim when my 'burban was in an accident. That probably would've been good to know!

You have to be the claiment (claiming on someone else's policy) and you have to initiate the process

Yea, you have to start the claim process for DV, Not like they are going to offer paying you an extra 3 to 7 grand just cause you lost value on the vehicle. Best way i have found is get the value of the truck before any accidents then take the truck after its been repaired and get a value on it, send both appraisals to the insurance company via registered mail and also enclose the carfax report. After a few demands for payment and some negotiations more than likely you will get the claim paid. Its all Negotiations between you and the insurance

What worked for me before was I told them it was thier fault therefore I pick whatever shop I want to work on my truck. I picked out a Ford dealer and they were about 35 percent higher than anyone else and the insurance company just totaled it out. This was serval years back though.

you have the legal right to take it anywhere you want. As well as take it several places for estimates

Thanks for the info, guys.

Can you deliberately take it to the most expensive shop, Pat? Like get multiple estimates and take it to the highest one on purpose?

Been awhile, Had to start physical therapy for 3 slipped discs in my back. Found out guy that hit me was drunk on cell phone and the kicker NO insurance lol. So my insurance company became my enemy after they found that out. Looking at my truck you would have never thought it got hit that hard. My ins is fighting like little girls with my body shop guy, saying they are not going to pay his labor wages. Also said a new frame means they total it and they want it repaired lol ins guy even went as far as saying that the frames not damaged just brackets. Body guy says it needs new frame just from the looks of it and pretty much refuses to repair it. So my ins is telling me that if I want it repaired at my place I have to cover whatever they do not want to pay lmfao... Wow.. They are really wanting to not total my truck. My adjuster even went as far as little kid, well he said he dont want the work take it to our shop etc. Soo crazy had no idea how dirty adjusters were. Getting lawyer to step up and take over. Frame and electrical I def dont want this truck back. Also adjuster telling me that I cannot claim diminished value on uninsured policy. Will post a few pics as soon as I figure out how=) Thanks for all the advice and help.

Definitely will be changing ins after this mess. Let lawyer take over, and if anybody ever wonders You CAN definitely claim a dv with your own insurance. Ins company is GEico.
