So, it goes like this.....it's a Note under the Scheduled Maintenance Guide:
"On models equipped with the 6.2 engine, your message center is NOT equipped with the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor. Owners of the SVT Raptor, Harley-Davidson, and Lariat Limited models equipped with the 6.2 engine need to refer to the 7,500 mile maintenance schedule for oil change service intervals.".
I'm guessing that it is referring to the Oil Life reading that is in the message center, in the gauge cluster? It's under the Information heading, System Checks, And it reads Oil Life as a percentage. Because I have that. It gets reset at my oil changes. Would it be because I have a Lariat, and not the others mentioned that makes it so? I was just curious if you guys with the Raptors, H-D's and Limited's with the 6.2 had it?

 

There are 2 kinds of oil life monitors. One that actually looks at the oil its self for signs of age etc. That is the intelligent. Then there are the ones that monitor miles only. I am betting that all the 6.2 engines have that type. The others have the intelligent. My 5.4 09 has the mileage type.

 

My guess would be since the 6.2 was designed for the F250 and quickly retrofitted into the F150 the electronics are slightly different between the two platforms. On the new engines for the F150 the PCM monitors the oil health based on how the truck has been driven and a sensor that checks the oil and adjusts the % left in the display. Since the 6.2 either doesn't have this or it's used differently it does not work in the F150.

 

Well, I got to thinking about this. I asked this as well on another website. Got about the same answer there as well about how one just monitors mileage and uses a percentage, and the other that uses sensors. Then I did the math with mine. Assuming I use the recommend oil change interval for regular driving (7,500 miles), it's pretty close. My mileage monitor shows I'm at about 44%. I'm at 42,850 miles. Last oil change was at 38,575 miles. That means I've gone 4,275 miles. If I use 7,500 miles I have 3,225 miles to go. 7,500 minus 44% = 3,300 miles. So that's pretty close. Now, what if I use the severe duty interval of 5,000 miles between oil changes instead of 7,500 miles? How does the computer know I'm using that for oil change intervals instead of the 7,500? At 5,000 miles minus 44% = 2,200 miles left. At 5,000 miles I only have 725 miles to go to my next oil change because I've traveled 4,275. That's more like 14.5%. So, If mine does go by mileage, then it must be programmed for regular intervals of 7,500 miles. How/can that be changed to severe duty usage if that's what I use?

 

When the oil is changed, they have to enter 5000 as being 100% or you would just have to remember to change it when it said 67%.

On my 2011 Harley 6.2 it has told me to change the oil twice ,I only have about one thousand miles total on the truck ,so I assume it is monitoring the oil health some way.

 

It will monitor and set due for a change by either mileage or time. The owners manual will show what the oil change interval is and the is what your vehicle is set for.

 

After your next oil change they will set it to 100%. You can go in afterwards and set it to any % you want to the 10's. So after your next oil change, set it to 70% yourself and your good.
