Driveshaft Exploded

Ok, I'm exaggerating a little...

Just rolled 48,000 miles on the 2012, and decided to have the loud pop noise checked out. Every time I shifted from forward to reverse i would get a sharp pop noise from the back of the truck.

Dealer confirmed it was the driveshaft, so a new one is on order. Dealer commented that it wouldn't have ever manifested into a failure, but we are playing it safe.

Dealer handled this perfectly, did a great job! Hats off to Dewey Ford in Ankeny Iowa!!

Glad to hear they found the problem, and getting it fixed under warranty. Although I will admit, I was kinda hoping for some carnage pics... lol

Thats great to hear. Nice to hear a good dealership story every once in a while. I agree with Casey though that I quickly clicked on this thread hoping to see destruction! Which part of the warranty is this covered under? Is this the bumper to bumper part or the drivetrain part? Just curious.

its still gonna make the noise, i was reading a 52 page thread on this on another forum last night (forum) but i only got through the first two pages... someone else mentioned torqing the lugnuts to 150ft/lbs on the rear, some said it helped others, it didnt.

my 2008 does the same thing... imma regrease my leafspring bushings and see if that helps some, i think this issue is caused by the u-joints, parking brake springs, leaf spring bushings or the leaf springs rubbing together... who knows! but its really annoying

I figured it would come back, because a new driveshaft isn't any different vs. the old driveshaft in design.

It is covered under the drivetrain warranty, although I also picked up the wrap warranty so either way it is a freebie.

I'm getting a click sound from rear when shifting from park to reverse. It developed within the last 5,000 miles. Woundering if the u joints are failing. will mention to dealer on next service which is coming up.

My 2013 has a click noise after switching from drive to reverse and then accelerating. I found a TSB for it that covers 2012-13, 4x4 models with the 145 inch wheelbase. The TSB is 13-7-7 if that helps anyone. I haven't taken mine in yet, but plan to do so soon.
