6.2l fx4

Looking at buying a 2014 fx4 planning on a rancho 4" lift and running 35's not towing a lot so I'm wondering if its better to go with a 3:55 or 3:73? Didn't see a lot of info on this thanks in advance.

If you are putting 35s on, I would go with the 3.73 at minimum. If you tow anything even moderately heavy, 4.10 or lower would be even better.

The 6.2 would have less strain turning 35s, but the Ecoboost would probably get better gas mileage. Maybe someone here who has an EB or 6.2 with larger tires can add there experience. Personally, if I was in the market for a new truck, I would get the 6.2 no matter what i was doing with the truck.

dude go for the 3;73 you will love the 6.2 motor and it can be a bit of a gas hog! but its better than it stalling out on you like the eco boosters do and if your a light footed driver than you will be good!

I vote 6.2, and 4.10 gears. I have 3.73's and wish I had the 4.10, but it wasn't an option on the Canada destined 2010 models.

Unfortunately they cannot be ordered from the factory without the HD GVWR or getting the Raptor. The 4.10 can be had with the EB and max tow package.
He would have to get front and rear gears replaced aftermarket.

Thanks for the input! I currently have a 2012 Eco boost that hasn't been great on fuel anyways and stalls regularly so not a Eco fan!

Cool

I have an '11 Lariat with the 6.2, max tow and 3.73's. Check out my albums to see my gas mileage. I routinely get 20 mpg or better, as long as I drive civil .

That is good millage. I still can't decide if I want to get a 14' 6.2L. I really like my 08'. How does the 6.2L compare to the 5.4L? . . . is it worth it to trade up, or should I wait for something better with the 2015+ models. My truck only has 40,000 on it.

The 6.2L and 5.0L have the same flywheel torque curve according to Ford's marketing brochures. I would get no less than a 3.73 with that engine as I did the same for the 5.0L. That 3.73 will unleash the best performance plus you can exchange the required "off road" package for the "Max Tow package" for only $35 more, and gain the Tow mirrors, more payload, and higher capacity towing and hitch weight ratings.

You will have the most powerful gas powered truck out of any Ford F150/F250/F350 as far as drivetrain performance.

If I didn't need the fuel efficiency of the 5.0L, I would had gone for that 6.2L in either a F150 XLT or F250 XLT Crew Cab 4WD truck.

I owned a 2010 5.4L which ran circles around the much less powerful/slower 2008 F150 5.4L due to it's poor performing 4 speed auto trans.

The 2012 F150 5.0L truck I have now is so much more powerful than the 2010 5.4L, it's just nuts. The 6.2L w/6 speed trans vs 5.4L w/4 speed trans is like a 2007 2.0L focus vs a 2014 Mustang GT!

I have a 2012 HD F150 6.2 with Roushcharger and other mods. As long as I stay off the pedal I'm getting better mileage the my buddies eco's on long trips averaging 65-70 mph. Same goes for towing a trailer. That's where I see a bigger difference. Driving around town is a different story. Kinda hard not to use the 600hp sitting next to a Camaro at a stoplight. And if you really want the power to turn your 35's you can do a 4:10 gear swap using OEM Ford parts. That's my next project. Got quoted $1800. But that's in Canada where we get bent over on prices.
