radio problems

2010 f150 xlt no sync radio with sat radio. This happened twice this week. radio would just turn off, then back on again. T he first time the clock reset, and reset my settings not the programed channels. the second time just turned off then back on. . I do have aftermarket amps and a converter. would this effect the head unit power?

This sounds like a bad power connection to the radio. When you put in the amps and converter, did you have the radio out? Perhaps you left a connector to it not fully seated?

I like mkosu04's idea, too. A chronic low voltage condition can cause problems like this. When the radio cuts out, are you driving at a constant speed? Or does it do it when you're slowing down? Or maybe right when you start the truck? If the low voltage situation is causing the problem, it will most likely happen when you're cranking the motor, or when you're slowing down coming to a stop.

On the other hand, if the radio just cuts out at highway speed, then I'm more inclined to think loose connection somewhere. Usually there are two power wires to the radio, and one ground. So check all three of those.

HTH.

I checked my battery and there is no green eye, its black. I have to have it tested. I did not notice when it went out, slowing, etc. 3 years 34,000 miles on factory battery, and I might have to replace already. Everything was fine up till now.

Sounds fine to me, especially for a factory battery. My last battery went out a few weeks ago at 23 months, got a free replacement though. Got a little 1100 watt amp with no capacitor, but very careful to never leave my stereo on with the truck off.

And, my money would be on a bad connection versus a dying battery anyway. One of my speakers acted the same way when a bit of water got on the connection from having the windows down while driving in a light rain for a little bit. Would come on and off for weeks till I finally checked it.

It could also just be radio having issues, can't rule that out.
