Easy Fuel capless filler neck modifications

Anyone swapped out the easy fuel setup for a more traditional filler neck and gas cap like the 04-08's had? All of my current fords (all 4) have the easy fuel system and I personally don't like it. I would rather have the old setup. I'm looking at buying a tremor and I would like to swap out the easy fuel.

I'm thinking the old setup from 04-08 is close enough that it might be a direct swap (or slight modification) onto a post 09 truck. Has anyone tried it?

Can I ask what about it you don't like? I love not screwing around with a filler cap.

Well basically, I can't stand having to dig out the special funnel they give you everytime I put gas in from a gas can. Around here the local grocery store chain does this fuel perks thing, every 50 bucks you spend in the store gets you 10 cents off per gallon, but they cut you off at 30 gallons. So when I have a decent amount built up, I get my full 30 gallons and put the rest of it in cans and fill the other cars out of the cans. Its just a pain to have dig out that damn funnel everytime. Its much easier to just stick the spout from the can in the filler neck and pour away, but you can't with the easy fuel system. And I was never the type to forget my gas cap.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a second filler thing and leave it in the garage near the jerry cans?

My point was you have to use that special funnel, you can't just pour it in straight out of the can.

Also, there have been several reports of the trap doors on the drain hanging up and fuel pouring out right onto the pavement on the MK3 (2012-13) focus. Luckily that has not happened to me yet on the three I have but you never know. Besides around here everytime there is a spill at a gas station that exceeds 6 inches in diameter they call out the hazmat team. That can be a real pain if you happen to get caught there and your in a hurry, no one can leave until they are done.

Any way the old setup you did not have to worry about the trap doors or that stupid funnel, just a simple cap.

My wife has a capless system on her '10 Escape, and I've thought about retrofitting my trucks to the new system because I like it so much.....

I agree with the comment about buying a second funnel. A bunch of newer style Jerry cans you can't even empty them into a vehicle because of the short neck, and the angle. You need a long funnel to get off the body enough to turn the can at the right angle.

So you can't put fuel in your truck using a gas can with the capless system? Never tried it in my truck...

The gas can bit sound like a lot of work to save $3.00.

Where did you come up with that figure? If your thinking its from the fuel perks you can build them up and if you have enough get free gas. For example, you drop 200 on groceries and you get 40 cents off per gallon. For every 50 spent you get another 10 cents off. They also give the fuel perks when you buy gift cards like a restaurant or home depot or stores like macy's. And every year in August they do double fuel perks for back to school on all gift cards. Which is great for me, I have a teenage daughter who is a fasionista. I spent over 1G on clothes just for her. With the double perks I built up 4.00 in perks so I got 30 gallons for free and had 55 cents left.

I've thought about eventually swapping to this newer system... I like it more than the cap type.

I'm spoiled. I like it too, but I see the OP's point with what he is trying to do.

I am not a big fan of it but only because I hate, hate, hate getting gas and when I do I violate the top off rule and want to shove every drop in it I can. I cant help myself and always have it flow out of the trap door onto the ground.

Duct tape a second funnel to a gas can? Seems like a much easier solution than trying to retrofit the truck.

That's the easy way out. I rather mod the truck, if for no other reason than the sense of accomplishment.
