Camber/Caster/Toe alignment on 2012!!! WTH!!

Hello Guys, I have a 2012 F-150 4x4, have 10,350 miles on odometor and it's just 1 yr 2 mo old and I've babied this truck. No offroad yet, no pot holes or rough roads. Everyting including tires are stock. (havn't had any money to do anything )

Noticed that the drivers front tire was wearing very badly (almost bald) on inside tread, pass front tire was also wearing at the same place but not as bad as drivers. Just the inside tread is affected, the rest of the tire tread is fine. Alignment wasn't an issue as it drove straight and didn't pull.

Dealer said that I needed a camber/castor kit since they pulled the numbers and drivers side was in the red and pass side in the yellow and that my Toe alignment was out.

Dealer said that I could just adjust the Toe but would only fix 65% of the issue. They want $300+ for a camber/castor kit intall

I'm sorry but for this new of a truck and just having hwy miles on it there is no way it's out just like that. I've owned truck all my life, my last three were fords and I've NEVER had an issue like this. Has anyone else had this issue on these trucks? Dealer says it's not uncommon for this to happen....WTH!! My truck's still there, I haven't given the go ahead yet.

My question

I would get a second opinion from another dealer before you sink money into it.

There is no reason any vehicle would need a "castor camber kit". all that does it make it easier for them to do an alignment. Find a reputable alignment shop to do the work.

I just talked to another dealership my dad had good luck with on his 2008 6.4 diesel fuel pump issues. I told them exactly what the dealer here said and he basically said the same thing.

He says it's not an everyday issue but they have had newer trucks come in with the caster/camber alignment issues. But he did say that it is unusual to find one with that issue with such low mileage without having some sort of impact damage or bent suspension.

I've got a call into the service manage of the dealer my trucks at, I'm going to talk more to him and see what he says. If they won't budge then I'm taking it to ther other dealer.

That was what I thought too. I didn't think the kit was required either. I asked that question to both dealers and they both said that the kit was needed for the adjustment.

I'm trying to get it covered under warranty but if I can't then I will take it to an alignment shop, I have one local I trust.

Ford doesn't align them when they build them, they just get it close by having the suspension set at a base line.

You have to buy a high end sports car to get a factory alignment, from any manfacturor

Thanks for the info, I never knew that. I just assumed that alignment was something that was done. So I guess the front end alignment could quite possibly have been off a little from the factory and just got worse.

A little good news though....I just got off the phone with the service manager. He said that they will install the kit and adjust the camber/caster for me under warranty. Still a little weary of how it got off in the first place but I guess it's possible it was out a some since I bought it.

I'd get this: https://www.f150online.com/forums/su...amber-kit.html

That in bold is EXACTLY what NTB told me the other day. He said they have a lot of 2004+ F-150s come in and they need the camber kits and they aren't lifted or lowered... stock height. Mine was altered when I lowered mine, and since I'm going to go lower next year, I want the adjust-ability anyways, plus my camber sucks The one I made the thread about is the one I just got, came in yesterday.

The LCA on my 2010 is slotted where it bolts to the truck. If it needed a camber kit, I'd be absolutely shocked. Maybe the '12's use a different LCA. I know for sure that there is camber adjustment availability in my '10 with just these slots.

The camber kits don't add any more adjustablity, it just makes it 10x easier to perform the adjustment.

The slots are still there, and aren't altered.....

I just picked up a 2013 FX2 2 days ago, it definitely needs to be aligned. The steering wheel is clearly not centered.

Why buy a 4x4 if you drive on pavement 100% of the time? Are you one of "those people"?

What I do or don't do with my truck is my own business and none of yours......but to answer your question I haven't taken it off-road mostly because I just have the crapy factory tires. I do plenty with my truck, tow hunting equipment and travel trailer to my deer lease, boat to lake, etc. I just haven't been in the mud yet. Also were in a drought here in parts so mud is scarce.
