Did I really break driver side mirror?
Did I really break driver side mirror?
Hello everyone. First post from me as I just last week became the owner of a 2010 F-150 XLT. The truck is looks brand new inside and out, only a few scratches here and there and just 47,000 miles and I love it so far.
My first issue is this: I have to pull the driver side mirror in (manually) so it will fit into my car port. I had done this about 6 or 7 times without any issue and would pop it back out after I backed out and it would “snap or lock” into place. Yesterday I pulled it in and I thought something felt weird, I don’t know how to describe it, I just noticed it seemed harder to pull in than before but I just thought I was weak from that day’s activities. So today I back it out and it won’t snap or lock into place like before. …it’s seems kind of floppy, like it’s off track or something. I can still use it, the power adjustment and the turn signal on the mirror both still work but it’s not right when compared to the passenger side mirror. Doing some research here and other places on the net I've come to the conclusion I might have actually broke something just doing something the mirror was originally made to do. So did I? Suggestions?

Just spit-balling here because I don't know for sure. They feel to me like they are spring loaded, and it helps keep them steady when you lock them into either position. If that's it, maybe that's what has broke. Should be an easy fix I would think. But, sometimes easy doesn't equate to cheap. If your close to a Ford dealer, they may know exactly what needs to be done. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the replies, FYI to mods. It took 7 days for me to get notification that someone had responded.
Anyway, it turns out that I did in fact break the mirror. I went back to the dealer about another issue (some of the jack parts were missing) and after I got that taken care of I mentioned the mirror. I told them I just pulled it in like any normal person would do and it something happened. They looked at it and said yep, it's broke and they are going to replace it as soon as the part arrives. I am just going to have to be very careful when I pull the new one in and if it happens again I will upgrade to power mirrors.
Thanks, I'm sure I will be back with other questions soon.

Help!!!
This may or may not be the right section for this question. And, please forgive me if it's the wrong place. But, I have what should be a simple question for some of you...
I clipped the mirrow of a Silverado that moved into my lane to make a wide turn some time back and while his mirror EXPLODED, mine just popped the glass off and shattered it. So, I ordered a new glass from 1A Auto for $34.95 and thought that I was home free. However, my question is this:
Is there another part that goes between the mirror motor and the actual glass? I have a 2009 F150 SuperCrew XLT and it just seems like there has to be something else missing because the tabs on the back of the glass do not seem to line up with the holes on the actual Motor. And, if any of you have ever pulled your mirror in and forgot to push it back out, these bad boys are quite difficult to drive without a drivers side mirror! Therefore, I need to get this thing replaced ASAP!
Again, I apologize if this is the wrong section but I sure hope that someone can help me out. I've searched high and low and I cannot find a diagram that shows any parts other than what I have and I am getting really frustrated.
Thanks in advance,
Jledenham
