Ecoboost Lower Grill Insert??

I know someone has asked this but search didnt come back anything... On ebay they have the lower grill insert for the ecoboost.. Would putting this on the truck hurt it anyway? I know ford left it open to get more air into it but ive read that rocks among other things can screw up the intercooler..

heres the link off ebay

Ask your dealer if it will affect your warranty. I believe there may be an insert that Ford sells that won't affect warranty.

That grill looks more restrictive than the billet grills on ebay.

I have had mine on since about 1 week after picking the truck up new. Never had a problem...dealer never said a word when I took it in for oil changes.

My theory is, I'm leaving the inlet open after looking at the way the cooler is angled. The way it sets in the opening, it will deflect debris and not take a "hard hit" as it would if the cooler was sitting straight up and down.

I called my local ford dealer and they said ford doesnt offer the lower grill insert for the ecoboost.. I asked if there would be any warranty issues later down the road... He said probaly not but he couldnt guarantee anything...

I think im going to go ahead and order one... Worse case scenario if i have something go wrong i will take it off before going to the dealer..

Im not too concerned about debris hitting it.. Kinda more the good ol texas bugs clogging everything up after a summer of driving..

If you want to keep bugs out, you need to put up a fine screen of some sort.

That one is really restrictive. However, unless you are taxing this engine to its fullest, I doubt you will ever notice an issue with reduced power due to lack of airflow. If you are pulling a big camper up a steep grade in 100 degree heat, then I would say don't put one on there.

I have never heard of anyone having to replace that cooler because of debris hitting it.

I put a billet one from amazon on mine. I don't notice an appreciable increase in the intake air temp as shown on my Edge CS after installing it.
