2011 F150 5.0 doing my first tow, have a few questions

Ok, I recently sold my 2000 F150 with the triton 5.4 because well, it was a total pig and could not tow well at all.
I recently purchased a 2011 F150 FX4 with the coyote in it and the truck is a big difference.
My trailer is approx 2,200-2,500 closed deck car trailer and my 03 cobra is roughly 3,600. When towing, do you guys use tow haul and leave it in drive or manually shift it? What is a good RPM to let it sit at if manual? I will be doing back roads to the highway then highway for about 2.75 hours straight. Not to hilly once on the highway. If anyone is from NY/NJ area I'm going from Cortlandt Manor NY to Toms River NJ taking the garden state parkway.
I am installing the factory brake controller today as my truck did not come with it then taking it to ford for a reflash. It is a 3.73 axle with the tox package, not max tow.

I'd put it in tow/haul and leave it alone. The computer will take care of it.

You should be fine with tow haul on an open trailer (not much wind resistance). At most you may tap the down arrow on the shifter a time or two to lock out 6th if you have a lot of rolling hills and she starts to hunt between 4-6th...
