Just got new FX2 Crewcab

Hey, new to signing up to this forum. Have done a lot of research here to figure out how "this and that" can be adjusted or removed over the years.

This is my 5th F150. Recent previous years were 2004, 2006, 2010 all with the 5.4/3.73 configuration.

I have to say I am have been pleasantly surprised with the 5.0/3.73 setup. I like to call it my "Pony Truck". lol

So far the only things I have found necessary to do is change out the stiff rear OEM shocks for some smoother Reflexes. Also, I had the dealer remove the OEM FX2 gray running boards prior to delivery. I have never been a big fan of them......old school I guess. If anyone is interested in them shoot me a PM. I'm in the Tampa/St Pete area.

Other than that the truck has been perfect in all respects.

Jim

Window sticker says 402A.

And I forgot......I also added a JLT catch can. Plug and play with OEM fittings and hoses. Took about 2 minutes to unsnap the OEM hose and snap on the JLT. The stainless bracket is not necessary but was something I made from some boating stuff I had laying around. Bend to shape and bolts to existing stud on engine.

Try here for the can. You could probably get it a little cheaper elsewhere but I got it direct from them.

After a about 2k miles I think I might have captured a little over an ounce of crud.

Did you do both drive and passenger side?

It catches stuff.

It's probably best to just read up on it on the Mustang forums and the sites that sell these things.

BUT....the long and the short of it is that essentially govt standards over the years have required oil blow by and exhaust gasses to be captured by a PCV system (essentially the PCV hose) and rerouted back into the engine to be burned once again.......or at least try to burn it again. "The Can" catches most of the blow by materials so that you can open the catch can and dump the crud into whatever receptacle you use when you change your oil.

Some say the can is worthless because if manufacturers wanted you to have one they would have put one on at the factory. (snicker)

Some say the catch can reduces the dilution of your fuel due to the crud being reintroduced back into the engine. (maybe/probably).

Some say that over several years of use the catch can reduces significantly the blow by sludge that accumulates in the engine when the reintroduced material doesn't burn but rather just accumulates. (proven).

In reality, most people sell or trade their vehicle prior to ever worrying about sludge build up in the engine. But then again some do keep their vehicle for a long time and realize the benefit of the catch can.

FWIW a brand new engine will likely have a little more blow by than one that has been broken in properly. And then when the engine is well worn down the road, blow by will increase a little.

In my research the "experts" say that because of the design of the engine, doing the drivers side is overkill. They say 99 percent of the crud will be captured just doing the passenger side.

Some that do both sides say they don't usually capture anything in the driver's side can...........so I went the the passenger side only.......99 percent works for me.
