Folding Center Seat Console

Hello, long time listener, first time caller.
I just bought a 2013 XLT Supercrew. The front middle folding seat looks to be a giant console but there is almost no storage space. It seems like a ridiculous wast of space. If there a reason it's built like this? Has anyone had any luck with a replacement folding seat, or a modification of some sort?
Thanks!

I dont know about modifying the seat, but I know you can get a console off e-bay for like 2-300 and can bolt it in super easy.

I have a 2013 XLT SCab with the bench seat in the front as well - My previous truck was a 2003 XL SCab with the bench seat (what can I say I like the bench seat in the front for the dog).

There was a lot more room in the 2003 seat that the 2013 but the reason for that is because the 2003 seat only had a lap belt whereas the 2013 is a lap sash combo. The retraction mechanism uses up a lot of space in the seat/console/arm rest part.

I think this is why they put an additional storage area under the middle seat as well. I now put stuff that I used to have in that center space in 2 groups. That which I use more often goes in the seat back and the rest in the space under the seat.

I wish I had something in the center seat other than my dog to justify the lap sash combo but I guess safety first...

There's a storage area under the middle seat? I'll have to check that out. I've only had the truck for a couple days, and haven't spent a whole lot of time driving it. I will look into the center console... Thanks!

It took me 3 months before I realized you could lift up the seat bottom for more storage.

Funny.... I have a 2012 SCREW with the smaller console and would love to swap for the ones you guys have. I have 4 kiddos and occasionally we need to put a kid up front and that shoulder strap would be nice.

What color are your interiors? Mine is tan. I am in SW Missouri......

I'll share my experience. My personal truck is FX4 and work truck is XLT with flip up seat. I thought it was lame so I bought a pull out XLT floor mount console on ebay for $250, I think some call it the 5 gal floor bucket? Anyway, I set it in the truck and I hated it, the top of that console was much lower. I much prefer to use the flip up seat as an arm rest and hold my coffee. So I sold the floor mount and put the jump seat back in. There is a nice stealth storage under the bottom of the jump seat.

I did toss the headrest from the front and rear center seats...

I just installed a middle seat from an XLT SCREW. Bolted right in. Didn't even have to pull the driver or passenger seat out.

This seat appears to be identical to the aggravating stock XL and STX seat, except it has a small console and 2 cup holders in the back of the seat. Same size, same shoulder belt, same sliding cup holder bottom front and under seat storage. My new seat has 2 cup holders behind the seat. But the door will not completely open, as I have a regular cab. But could be a good place to hide small stuff. There is a power point receptacle in the back as well, but I didn't see any wiring in my truck to attach to it.

Bought the seat on ebay.

Well worth the money.
