Test drove a Lariat and an FX2. Both with the 5.0. Nice trucks. I need to visit one more dealer, and make a decision.
Dealer #1 wouldn't give me a trade in price even though he was going to offer "top dollar" for it. He said they don't give the trade in price unless you are buying that day. They sent in the closer, but I deflected him easily. Should be making a purchase in a week or two.
I wish the dealers would put on the website if they added stuff on like a spray in liner something. One truck was priced out of my budget due to 1900 in dealer add ons.

I just went through all of that again and spent time at 6 different dealerships in Central/Southern Illinois and Southern Indiana. Quite an adventure! I have now bought my last three trucks ('10, '12, '13) all from different dealerships. Just make sure you don't settle and get the truck you really want! Post pics once you get it!
I agree with you on the dealer add-on's and lack of transparency.

I don't mind the dance, as long as I am picking the music.
So it looks like I am going to with the Lariat in Blue Jeans. It's a dealer demo, and has 4K miles on it. If can talk the FX2 down another 1K, I'll take it.
I spoke to our finance lady, and I asked her if it would hurt us (as far as a hard credit pull) to take the extra 1500 and finance with FMCC and then refi with DATCU in a week or two. She said nope won't hurt a bit as she did the same thing with her last vehicle purchase. Now I just gotta get the wife to sign off and I am good to go.
You married guys know what I am talking about...

i am in the same situation sort of. i plan on buying a 2013 EB Platinum at the end of the month if my house refinance comes through - otherwise it will wait a month. here is my strategy ... critique at will.
1) pick out the exact truck i want. all dealers in a general area trade the inventory around. if you see it at one dealer you can get them all to bid on selling it to you.
2) i get the Consumer Reports 'paid' dealer pricing printout. this tells me the dealer cost and holdbacks for the base vehicle and all options. pretty easy to get a 'real number' for negotiation. i do this for every 'new' vehicle i buy - best $14 per purchase i ever spend.
3) a week before the deal - i get all dealers to bid me a price - i extend the radius into a a populated area where i will get an absurdly low quote. i had one dealer 50 miles away quote me $1000 less than the CR dealer price minus all holdbacks. i like doing business locally though so i kept that one in my pocket.
4) morning of last day of the month i hit the local dealer. sit down with the salesman and he pulls out the 4 square and starts talking. i interrupt with something to the effect of: "listen to me. i priced your vehicle at 4 dealers. here is my number: xxxxx (i add about $400 to the dealer cost-holdback number so they can make a little profit). take this to your sales manager. i have a better offer at a different dealer and they are an hour away. you have 5 minutes to accept this deal which is not as good as theirs or i'm out of here". i then set the stopwatch on my watch. usually the salesman walks out within 5 seconds. the longest i waited was 3:45 for a yes.
i did this last 18 months ago for my ex-wife. on a fully loaded Honda CRV - list was 28K she paid 22.5K and could have gone lower drive 30 minutes away. the look on the salesman face when she signed the purchase agreement with the price and i stood up to leave was priceless. i told him, it's her car, i'm the designated negotiator.
i'm not going to haggle unless i'm getting paid - ie. selling an item. if i'm buying, i determine the cost as best as possible, the best moment to buy, and present a take it or leave it proposal ... the dealer wants to clear that lot on that day ...
good luck. i'm sure i will post my new truck within 3 weeks - either a platimum or loaded King Ranch - i sure like the Platinum leather better ... super soft.
