Go to www.Edmunds.com and configure that same truck. You will be able to see MSRP, Invoice price, and what others in your area are paying for similarly equipped vehicles. This will give you a really good idea of what you should pay for the truck.

I had my local dealer trade for the '12 I own and I didn't give them any type of commitment...... It was kind of a gentleman's agreement if ya catch my drift. I wouldn't hesitate to dealer trade again if it was needed.

I had to put down a deposit before they would go get my truck from another dealer.

If something is wrong with the truck they will return your money.

I've done it several times. I didn't put any money down until the vehicle arrived at my dealership, but we did have a verbel agreement to buy if everyting was OK on the car. It takes the dealer time, and money for transporting the vehicles i.e. gas, and pay for the driver or if they use a rollback. They sometimes trade a vehicle on their lot for the one they are getting. So, I don't think it's unreasonable to have some kind of commitment to buy.

I would advise making a deal on the truck before you ask them to bring it in, with the caviat that if anything is wrong you can refuse taking ownership. Good luck.

I've done multiple dealer trades in the past and never given a deposit. I'm not even sure it's legal for a dealer to ask for a deposit unless it's 100% refundable? Basically the dealer is trading a similar vehicle for the one you want from his lot and it is quite common so they should be willing to accomodate you. If you are asking for a pink truck with no power steering, i.e., something they would be hard pressed to sell to another party then a deposit would be fair. Don't forget you are the customer and they need to facilitate you, not the other way around.

Good luck and reading your specs, it looks like a nice truck!
