Question Windshield washer delay???

When I use my washer fluid I keep getting a delay. I will hear the pump run as soon as I hit the button, but it will take 1-2 seconds or more for the fluid to start spraying. If I use it again right away its much quicker.

It seems to me like the fluid is draining back to the tank and leaving my lines empty.

Is that how all the new trucks are supposed to perform or do I have a problem with my pump?

Mine is a 2012 SCREW with the ecoboost. I imagine all the trucks have the same washer pump though. I bought it this past November and its always done this. It does not seem to be a temperature issue - it happens on warm and cold days. Plus I run the orange rain-x fluid so it won't freeze.

I searched but couldn't find anything.

Please let me know if your truck sprays immediately or not.

Thanks

mine is the same. you probably have 4 feet of tubing to fill up. seems to take longer as the reservoir gets lower. water seeks its own level so more of the line is staying full.

I haven't had a vehicle that doesn't do that. Everything I've ever driven with washer fluid takes a second or two to prime the lines.

really?
maybe I'm not remembering right, but I think in my 2004 FX4 the nozzles sprayed right away when I hit the button.

I would think they would install an anti-flowback valve on the line to keep the lines full.

oh well. I won't bother asking a dealer about it then.

Thanks

my 2009 SCAB sprays iimmediately. It there is a small crack or leak in hose from the resevoir to the nozzles it might take longer fill since you may be losing some fluid during the first pump. Just a guess...

Mine would delay or not spray at all until I pressed again. Told dealership when in for service and they replaced under warranty. It works right away everytime now.

Thanks - mine has started doing that sometimes too now... It will make noise but nothing comes out, even after 5 or more seconds. Then I try again and it works.

My passenger side nozzle also sprays mostly off the windshield and needs to be adjusted. I could probably figure it out, but might as well let them do it if it is there anyway.

Looks like its time for a trip over to the dealer.
