2013 Electronic Diff suspension

Ordered a new 2013 2WD SWB Reg Cab when I was stationed overseas. I ordered: 5.0, tow package and electronic locking diff. that's it.

Does Ford automatically change the suspension to an off road package for more clearance when the E Locker is selected as an option?

Just picked it up. It seems really "tall". my wife and kids can barely get in. My similar '04 is several inches shorter. It also looks like there is more space above the tires than other new trucks I see with the same wheels. Stock 17 inch wheels.

haven't found any Ford info that addresses this.

The only thing the locking diff does is tie the gears in the rear end together at low speeds. It does not change the vehicle height at all.

17" is the smallest tire so there will be more gap or space in the wheel wells. As posted, electronic diff is just an E-locker. It is actuated by pulling out the 4wd **** just like the fog light switch. The manual may describe it in better detail. Congrats on the new truck.

My fault for not being more clear.

Should have typed,

I may go park it next to a non E locker truck with 17's on the lot and see.

For 17 inch wheels, this truck really sits up high.

Off-Road package is all terrain tires and rear E locker. I haven't seen it with 17's but I guess it is possible. Usually has the Good Year ATS 275/65/18 tires tires. You can verify or compare your spring codes with the door sticker. It will be four letters like DDFF etc..

good tip. I just checked the door. spring code is RRFF.

This truck is also an "Export" truck, which probably confuses things. I ordered it when in Russia, and the MSO dealer is in Switzerland. It was built in November, but I couldn't pick it up until last week. In San Antonio.

what do the springs decode as?

There is no offroad package available for the 2wd trucks. Do you have access to your VIN right now? Then I can show you how you can get a copy of your window sticker and we can pinpoint what the difference is(I am betting it is oversized tires-this is a factory option with the 17's).

I have the sticker. You may be on to something.

6650# GVWR package
P235/75R17/ BSW all terrain tires

didn't think of that.

I didn't specifically ask for either of these options. I wanted a limited slip and tow package to go with the 5.0. If I recall correctly, the 3.31 was not available with a limited slip, so we checked the E-locker box. There wasn't much info available. Certainly nothing indicated the E locker only worked at low speeds. Doubt I will ever turn it on again. I verified it works.

Admittedly after looking at your window sticker I did not see anything indicating that your truck is anything but a stock height 2wd truck. The tires you have are the standard size, so thats not it. Anyone else with ideas?

I don't see anything that would make the truck sit up higher than normal. I have noticed the regular cabs do seem to be just a touch higher in the back which always attributed to the shorter cab weighing less and therefor not compress the springs quite as much. There are lowing shackles that you can use to drop the back end down a few inches. These are pretty easy to install and don't cost much. I'm not sure if there are blocks between the springs and axle on the 2WD that can be removed.

The locker works at something like 25MPH and under. Once you get over that it automatically unlocks. The trucks also have the brake assisted limited slip that always works. Ford does not offer a true limited slip in the 3.31 axles only the 3.55 and 3.73 and possibly the 4.10. I think the carrier in the axle is different on the 3.31 which would require a different version of the LS to fit. I looked into this on my 2001 but I traded that truck in 10 years ago so I have forgotten some of the details.

I just got my new 2013 XLT 5.0 Tuesday. I noticed it was a lot higher than my 2005 STX but the new one has 20's vs 17's on the old. I have the 3.31 with electronic locking diff. My FIL has the platinum edition with 20's and my truck is taller. I didn't check the tire height but its definitely a little taller.

I will try to park mine next to a non e-lock dif 2013 shortbed with 17's and see if there is a difference. Maybe the 2013's just sit higher.
