13' 5.0 Platinum Screw 4x4-Dealer Demo

Was up in Rhode Island this morning and I decided to stop by the dealership where I purchased my last new F150(Lariat) from. I noticed a 2013 Plat parked outside the main entrance w/dealer tag and it was really dirty. The sales guy walks over to say it's his general managers daily driver. We go out for a ride and I notice it has 1745 on the odometer. I park it back in the same spot and I ask for an OTD price if I decided to pull the trigger.

The sticker MSRP is: $51,365
Their "No Haggle" price is: $47,389

He tells me that I would qualify for $4K off($43,389)with current incentives and FOMOCO financing. He did say he was going to factor in the Demo/mileage discount but either he forgot or he didn't give me any more $ off. I didn't need to press the issue and I headed out of the show room. I would need at least $1K off the price for the demo factor and I would need to see it all cleaned up inside and out before i made my decision.

I'm asking for opinions on this OTD price and looking for anyone that may have purchased a F150 Demo in the past two years. I did a site search, but the only post I found dated back to 2009 and it didn't say if the OP ended up buying the demo.

43K for a "used/demo" that dont seam like much of a deal at all. Infact they would have to come off at least another 6K for me to even look at it. Granted you dont live in LA but i just found this one today. BRAND NEW for 39K. I understand its a 2WD but still

A good friend of mine bought a BRAND NEW 2013 Platinum 4x4 5.0 3 weeks ago. MSRP was 53,xxx. Couldnt get another opition on the truck and he paid 44,200 AFTER TTL and got a Line-X Premuim bed liner also.

I am also very much unimpressed. You are essentially buying a used truck, and I know you could get a new one for less than that. I would ask for a lot more personally....

You're right, they need to work the numbers much more than they have. If I didn't live here in the Northeast I would buy a 4x2. That price your buddy got is a very good one, especially with the Line-X. Thanks.

If I do decide to go back, they will need to bring the price down much more than his first offer. I have purchased my last three new F150's from this dealer, so I need some love.

BTW, I noticed you're in Fairbanks, AK. I lived in Tok Junction for 3 years from Aug 1989 to Sep 1992 while assigned to the USCG Loran C Station. Made many trips to the "big city" and Fort Wainwright.

I had a good laugh at that. The term "big city" and Fairbanks dont frequently coincide lol. I hope you have some luck at your dealer, I am sure they can work that number down further......

About $12 to 13k off easily for a demo (used) vehicle would be about right.

$12 to $13k off MSRP? For an untitled vehicle with 1,700 miles on it? No way would that happen. I would guess you could safely ask for $43K OTD and have a bit of a chance in getting them to bite. That price would include the $4K rebate... Good luck, I hope you can do better than what I'm predicting.

12-13k off is not unreasonable. I have seen some dealers in the Northwest selling new(0 mi) vehicles for 12k off at model year end.

At model year end... Not the case here. They did discount the truck off of MSRP though... How much of that has the demo miles baked in?

I had a similar situation... Demo truck had about 2k miles on it... Dealer wouldn't budge nearly enough to justify not going with a truck with 0 miles (relatively speaking). In fact they were so unwilling to budge they spent the time and effort to find a new unit and do a dealer trade to get it for me rather than coming down on the demo. I ended up OTD about the same as they were willing to do on the demo... Makes no sense, but they view a demo as untitled and new and not depreciated because of a few miles.

Truth be told, Unless the demo is a super awesome deal and you have a chance to comb over it I would steer clear. My dad sold new cars when I was a kid... He drove demos back then... Whoever bought those cars when the sales guys were done with them has no idea what those demos went through... They were generally WELL broken in for sure... LOL

That's way too much. When I bought my 2011 Platinum it was one of the first EB trucks the dealer received, I placed the order right after the order bank opened. The sticker was right around $54,xxx. I worked them down to $42,xxx before trade in. This truck had 9 miles on it when I picked it up not 1700. They need to come down quite a bit more.

Believe me, I don't mind pushing a dealer to hard during a negotiation. But, I'm confident they aren't going discount this truck by that much. I agree if it were at the end on the model year/month, they would be much more willing to move it.

Thanks for your input on your experience with a demo. If it were a super, rock bottom deal, I would be securing my financing and heading back there. I would still need the truck washed and detailed before I said yes. It's a filthy mess from all the snow/salt up here in the NE.

I'm not familiar with the sales guy who dealt with me and he did try to steer me into looking at a 2012 Plat w/20K miles he just took in on a trade. As it stands right now, I'm going to run this exact build through my USAA Car buying service and Edmunds Market Value Pricing. I might check the e-price on this truck at the dealers site as well.

I purchased my 2013 Plat SCrew 4x4 that had a MSRP of 52,370 on a D Plan price of 46,470. This is under Dealer Cost. Dealer's also get a Hold Back from the factory 2-3%.

Now if there are incentives from Ford; those are also deducted. A few weeks ago my incentives totaled 4750.00. So my total discount was 10,650 off of list. Later in the model year, there could be more incentive $$$; but selection won't be as good.

Now just because the truck has demo miles, that does not mean there is another 4, 5, or $12,000 for a discount. The money is just not there. So, if you get to purchase the truck at dealer cost or below you are already getting the best deal, regardless of the miles.
The benefit of buying a Demo is that your warranty will have the demo miles added to the 36,000 factory warranty. It's supply and demand; if the dealer is being aggressive in moving certain vehicles, then there is simply no more profit to give up, demo miles or no.

So, you can choose to negotiate on truck that is on the lot, or have them dealer trade or just order from the factory and you can get your vehicle with just a few miles.

I have purchased many vehicles that were in demo service and never regretted the extra miles because I received extended warranty coverage on those miles.

Hope this helps.

I'm seeing anywhere from $7500 to $8000 of MSRP for Plats in my area of NC.

BTW, I looked at a Demo at the dealer I always buy from. The Salesguy told not to buy, because the Manager drives it like he stole it. That was good advise.
