Dissapointed in Ford not standing behind Quality
Dissapointed in Ford not standing behind Quality
I have a 2010 F150 Lariat with 22,600 miles on it.
The leather seat back on the driver side has some unusual wear on the back of the seat, the bottom leather is OK.
I took it by the dealer to find out I was 3 weeks out of warranty.
Granted I should have known the exact date but due to illness and traveling for work I let it slip.
The dealer was nice but said too bad, you are out of warranty. They did give me the customer care # when I asked about who should I call.
I opened a case up and in a few days the dealer's adviser called me saying Ford would split the total of $560+ with me, Ford would pay $200.
How kind.... A local leather shop could fix or dye it for a lot less than my part.
I am very disappointing in Ford's response and will keep this in the back of my mind at the next purchase time. I have the privilege to buy all 6 vehicles my family drives. I came back to Ford from GM/Chevy based on the features and all the Ford Quality statements.
Oh well.....Vent Vent...

If you can have a local shop fix it for much less than your proposed portion, I'd do just that.
Although it's definitely frustrating in a situation like this (I'd be frustrated, too!), the vehicle IS out of warranty, and Ford isn't contractually obligated to fix the issue. Heck, they've "fought" a few folks who had issues while the vehicle IS under warranty. I wouldn't expect any exceptional treatment here.
To that point: If Ford HAD agreed to repair your seat and cover 100% of the cost even though the truck was out of warranty, would you have put up a post praising their customer service? I would. Because they did something they didn't HAVE to do.
Bottom line is, it sucks. I'm sorry you had the issue, and I'm very sorry you had health issues, etc that prohibited you from getting it fixed while it was under warranty. But they don't have to fix it at all, and at least they've offered SOME help.
Good luck!

House Doc, I do have to agree with the others. I'm really surprised they offered to help at all. Like Nasty said, they have to draw the line somewhere. If they didn't they couldn't handle all the lawsuits.
Yes, I would have posted if they would have fixed it.
I have had Honda and Toyota correct bigger issues outside of warranty.
I have 3 Hondas and a Toyota in the driveway based on their past history of stepping up to the plate. I like my truck but I feel FMC missed a chance to excel.

Doc, I believe you're expecting a bit much here. Like we've said, the truck is out of warranty, and Ford didn't have to do anything at all. At least they are willing to split the cost of repair with you.
Maybe get a repair quote from the local feller you mentioned and see if they will split an even lower cost of repair with you?

Doc, I had some minor trim issues that "should" have been taken care of under warranty but like yourself I let it slide 48 hrs past the warranty expiration and Ford said NO. My fault, sure I wish Ford would have said ok we'll fix it but that was not the case and I'm ok with it. It gives me an excuse to modify down the road to cover up some bad trim (line-x the rockers :-)))

I would like to hear about the Honda issues you had? Might it have been the transmission failures they've been so good at covering up....wayyy beyond warranty expiration? I've owned 4 honda's (2x accord and 2x civic) over the past 23 years and most likely won't own another one because of the snobbery that exists at the dealerships around here. When I told them I was flushing the tranny 3x per year they thought I was crazy, they were crazy not recognizing/acknowledging the design flaws in their auto tranny's. Glad I got rid of them.

I don't mean to pile on... but comon - really?
So when you say you are mad at Ford what you really mean is that you are mad at yourself for not taking care of it while it was still under warranty, right???
Understandable.
But it does not make it OK to come on here and try to blast Ford for bad quality.
Its a leather seat.
Its over 3 years old.
It may or may not be your fault that the leather is bad.
They stepped up and offered to help pay. To me this is a good thing.

not surprised man, it's out of warranty. Ford has actually given people that are in warranty a hard time. There's a guy in WV on here with a blue f150 with paint defects and they keep giving him the run around and ignoring him. That there is ford not standing behind their products.
