4x4

It was cold for about a week around -25C to -35C and when I went to shift into 4 High there was a very long grinding noise as it try to shift into it, this happened about 6 different times through out the week. Took to dealer and of course never did it again as it was warmer out. Anubody have this problem.

nope but if its a 2013 it should still be under warranty unless you drive a ridiculous amount.

we're you still on the gas when you went to shift it? make sure you're following the manual on use of the 4 wheel drive.

I had a similar issue on my 2009 Plat 4x4. However, I would be driving (35mph) in 2high and it would try and shift into 4L all by itself. It caused a horrible grinding noise (sounded as if a front wheel had come off and I was sliding on the disc). After 4 visits to the dealer they finally decided it was the 4x4 engagement motor (electric) that was for some reason trying to engage the 4x4L at any speed! I was definitely worried that the grinding may have inflicted permanent damage and called my regional Ford service claims person and got it on record in case I had a transfer case or other type of 4x4 failure in the future. Good luck!!

Do you mean 4hi? Pretty sure you have to be at a rolling speed and switch into neutral to get to 4lo.

Exactly, that was the problem, it was trying to switch into 4L all by itself at speed Horrible grinding was going on. I made my dealer promise to drain the transfer case and look for metal pieces to see if it would need to be replaced...they claimed they did...and there were no metal shavings in the transfer case oil

Eww, hard to believe it didn't. I would expect an exploded transfer case.
