5.0 rcsb 4x4 info
I'm just doing research for myself.
Anyone with a rcsb 5.0 What are you averaging for mpg? The way I drive I think I could pull 18 at least. I'm trying to decide on what I'd buy in about a year and I want a small truck but a car or small SUV would give space and better mpg. I know I'd be happiest in the 5.0 rcsb Stx. I have tons of time to decide but I am going to test driving various vehicles. Thoughts?

Also here's some perspective. I'm single almost 22 and will most likely have a small commute next year. I am the type of person who keeps things longer than most. Even if I got married within the time I owned it, I'd be looking for a screw by that time which would be 6+ years away. Personally, I think the reg cab fits my current needs and allows me to be comfortable and get decent mileage, but my brothers think otherwise. Thoughts?
So I'm pricing things out... most vehicles are coming in lows 20's (small SUVs). This site has little to no rcsb into. On f150forum I saw people grabbing them for about 24k. All I'd want is a 5.0 Stx with the decor package. Slap some Harley lights, custom borla exhaust, tonneau, drop shackles to kill the rake and 3m clear guard and I'd have an awesome commuter rig. I don't want synch or other electronic garbage. I think I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled next winter. I'd just fluid film the underneath and I'd be in good shape.

If I can get promoted at my job, the stores I'd be at are all highway routes. I'd be just cruising at highway speeds. I'd just need to find a place to store my '04 that's not gonna break the bank.
As you may have seen in the 3.7 thread, in Lowell I test drove a leftover 2011 F150 exactly the same as mine other than the 5.0 and tow package. It felt identical to my V6 under normal driving conditions. I'm sure that it's got more get up and go when you mash the pedal, but I'm not convinced that the 5.0 is going to deliver consistant 18-20mpg.
The 2011 with the 5.0 that I drove, and thought I might buy, stickered at just under 32k, was going to cost me about 27k. I probably would have gone for it but they weren't going me enough for my truck. I can't imagine that these trucks are going for 24k here in MA. Not new anyhow.
I completely understand the desire for a V8. If I could have a do over, I'd probably get the 5.0. If your looking a year out though, there will be more news on the 2015, which will probably be offering, at least, some powertrain tweaks. You might be able to get more for your money if you wait for a 2015MY.
My last mpg reading was just under 18. Winter hurts mpg pretty bad. If we are to get more snowy years, it'll be that much worse. If I could afford it, I'd like to have the truck for truck stuff, and a car that gets better mpg, and is fun to drive.
