Talking Ford Customer Service Comes Through HUGE on leaking PS Pressure Hose

Hi all,

thought I would bring this to your attention because I'm sure there are many other 09+ F-150 owners with this same issue (judging by the number of threads I found on it, I know there are!).

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...hose-leak.html

Like many others, I found recently that the Power Steering Pressure Hose that runs along the width of the framerail at the front of the truck was leaking. It had been leaking for quite some time as there was fluid all over the length of the hose and my frame. The dealer discovered this when I had it in for an oil change about 6 months ago. He told me about it, and said he would have to order the part for me and contact me when it came in.

I left and forgot about it for a while, meanwhile my factory warranty expired. A month ago I took it back to the dealer and told them I wanted it fixed asap, especially since my warranty had run out while waiting for this part to come in. The service manager told me that the part was unavailable, and Ford had no ETA on when more would be in stock. He said no one makes aftermarket hoses to replace this, and Ford has the part permanently pulled from stock. So I was left with a leaking hose and nothing they could do it about. I looked around online and found a ton of other owners with the same faulty hose and no recall or any solution from Ford.

So I sent a tweet to my local dealer and to Ford corp customer service (@FordService). I've found that twitter is a great way to get ahold of corporate entities because they don't like having the public negative feedback and will do everything they can to show that they resolved the issue to get some positive press. They promptly replied, and opened a case for me. I gave them my email, and we corresponded and I sent in pictures, explained the situation, etc. I was quickly contacted via phone by the Customer Service manager for my region (socal) and he said he would try and find the part for me and take care of the issue. Sure enough within a week or two he found the replacement hose I needed at a dealer up in LA and had it shipped to my dealer here in San Diego. He coordinated everything with the service manager, and they called me up and I brought it in for repair.

I was pretty happy about getting it fixed finally, but was still pissed off that my warranty expired while waiting on this part, and was even more pissed to find out that I had to pay $300 for the repair and they would not waive it for me under my just-expired warranty. So I called my Ford Corp Customer Service rep and thanked him for all the help finding the part and all, but told him I was still dissatisfied due to having to pay $300 for a repair that should have been done under my warranty. He was totally cool and said while he couldn't refund my cost of the repair, he would do something even better.

For the trouble of the situation, he gave me, for free, a 3 year/45,000 mile limited maintenance plan on my truck. This covers all basic maintenance and oil changes for the next 3 years/45k. Worth WAY more than the cost of replacing that hose. I couldn't believe it and thanked him for more than making up for the trouble. Just got the paperwork in the mail today, and I am totally a satisfied Ford truck owner once again.

Just wanted you guys to know, if you are having this same problem, or any other issue with your truck, hit up their customer service. Either call the CS center, or tweet them. And just curious, how many other people out there are still having the problem with the leaking PS Pressure Hose?

I am in NO way affiliated with Ford or anything, just an '09 FX4 owner and been a Ford fan my whole life. I still have my first car (1966 Mustang) sitting in my garage. Just stoked that instead of brushing me off and losing a customer like so many big corporations seem to be doing these days, they admitted their fault, solved my problem, and did what was needed to retain me as a customer for life.

Hope you guys have positive interactions with them too!

-Ian

They must of just gotten a huge shipment of these, Mine was ordered about 10 days ago and it's sitting at the dealer waiting on my Appt for Monday to install... When I took the truck in there were 400+ on back order. I was told it would take 3 days to recieve. It ended up taking 10 days but way shorter than most I've read about...

Yeah 10 days isn't bad. My dealer said he had a list of over 100 people who had been waiting for 6+ months...

Yeah I'm guessing it came through normal channels, Although I did mention that there were four I had found sitting on shelves at other dealers on the east coast... So they may have located one of those and got it shipped in... either way It'll be nice to not stain my driveway nightly...

45k worth of oil changes @ 5k is around $225, $25 per oil change... that is if you can pull off 9 oil changes in 3 yrs.

so make sure you get your coolant and atf changed to make it worth the ridiculous price of $300 to change a power-steering hose.

I'm not sure where you are getting $25 oil changes on a 5.4l v8, but please let me know! I have always taken it to the dealership as it is surprisingly cheaper than the other oil change places around here as I use semi-synth and it takes about 6 quarts or so - they all want $60-80 for an oil change. Dealer does it for $39-$50 depending on coupons I can find, plus topping off all fluids, tire rotation, inspection, etc. ( and I trust their inspections as they found the leaking PS hose in the first place).

So at minimum, double your estimate - $50 per change at 5k miles will be around a $500 value.

And I intend to change the oil every damn week with this thing...just because I can! hahahaha

Was doing oil at $3qt and 3.50 for a filter and changing it yourself. I'm sure you'll make it happen.

Semi-Synthetic oil is $3/qt in Texas? Damn, no wonder everyone has big *** trucks out there. California sucks...

The Ford dealer here in Laramie, WY does oil changes for $17.95+ tax! I used to do oil changes myself, but I can't even buy the oil+filter for that price.
