Which engine?

Currently I'm driving a 2011 sierra z71 and I'm thinking about getting back into a Ford. I am kind of leaning toward the Ecoboost but when I find a truck I like that's in my price range it has the 5.0. My question is which will give me better MPGs and does the 5.0 have alot of power?

I mostly drive on the highway about 20 miles around 70 mph. If i get one I will have it level 2.5" and probably 35s or 33s. Thanks for you input in advance!

Either engine is good. If you tow a lot, the EcoBoost will have more pull. The mileage for either engine is very close.

Neither engine will get great mileage with those mods. However those are the first mods I do to all of my trucks.

The 5.0 will eat the GM 5.3L all day long. Either engine you choose will be miles ahead. The only problem I see is with your level and tires. With the EB, you'll be in the boost more and will probably take a larger MPG hit. The 5.0 will get hit also, but may edge the MPG war.

I've got the 5.0 and no complaint's...did have an O2 sensor and 4 injector's changed at 2k miles. Truck now has close to 27k miles and no other problem's. Get up to 18 mpg under ideal condition's with heavy 33x12.6 tires and leveling kit. Wish I had the 3.73's to help get rolling.

5.0 owner here. 13K miles and zero complaints with the engine whatsoever. I have a 2" level and 33" tires (10 ply, of course), and I didn't notice any loss in giddyup. Lost maybe 1 mpg in fuel economy.

My truck has done everything I've asked of it so far, and it has performed flawlessly. As for the comparison to the Chebby 5.3? Yeah, there's no comparison. Just ask my boss who has the exact same truck you have.

Having said all of that, the EB is one hell of an engine too! Honestly, you can't go wrong with either.

If it were my choice I'd go with the 5.0......heck of a lot less issues than what the ecotoots are complaining about....

If you are going to lift and put bigger tires on it, then you have to get 3.73 gears at least. Otherwise, you are going give up a lot of bottom end. 4.10s would be better, but I don't think they offer those in a 150.
if you want low end grunt, then go EB for sure. If you want a high revving screamer, then go with a 5.0

They do, but only for Raptor and for FX4 ecoboost equipped trucks.

Your turbos work most of the time anyway. The eb builds its torque down low in the rpm band , giving u more grunt where you need it.

I'm pretty sure mine has 3.73 cuz when u kick it from a stop and it like u say is quite weak bottom end but mid range feels like a 2stroke dirtbike it kicks in and it's like holy ****. My grandpa has a 09 platinum scab and with the 5.4 I think my 5.0 has better power.
