LED Light to glow the console / cup holder area
LED Light to glow the console / cup holder area
My wife's car (and many other cars) seem to have a "glow" about the console area. The light comes from a little LED inconspicuously located in the area near the sunroof / rear window slider. We appear to have space to hide a little LED up there and I didn't know if anyone had done anything or knows of a product that might work. I'm looking to get just a little light on the cup holders and storage area near the shifter.
I know that for 2013 they offered this type of lighting as a factory option for about a $200 up charge. It also would light up in the foot wells. May be worth looking in to.
I noticed in your picture you have a V1 hard wired. I just got my truck, and started looking around the forum on how to hard wire it in. I already have the kit from Valentine, just need to find a power source so that it turns on and off with the truck. I don't want to high jack your thread so you can PM me or direct me to another thread if possible?

Check out my sig - you can wire directly in to the mirror adapter (pins 1 / 4). The invisicord has a built in fuse but I couldn't fit the little (and I got the smaller ones) pins into the adapter without them periodically falling out. I ended up shaving back part of the wire and hooking them directly up.
PIN1 = green / purple and is hot when the radio is hot.
PIN4 = black and is the ground

over the years I've found ford dosen't really know how to do good overhead lighting for the front seat area - maybe they have some thought that lights up front are bad regarding driveing with them on at night or some such .
anyway , I got fed up with it and tryed the mirror I happened to have from an 87-89 chrysler lebaron convert
- it has map lights in the bottom of it and the switch for them
power from the lighted sunvisor mirrors will make it work easy enough
but the best thing about it , it fit the orig mirror mount on the windshield - and it has a set screw in the base to tighten it down so it dosen't shake on the mount like the o-e one did
- that's a major improvement all of it's own
- in fact , it fits the mount so well , it won't shake even if you don't tighten the set screw
so , for the time being the auto day/night mirror lives in my sock drawer lol

Thanks for the info and pics! You saved me from a lot of frustration trying to find the right wires. Just got it wired up and it works perfectly.
My wife's Infiniti has the LED near the sunroof, and it seems like it would be difficult to get the lighting just right without having the right size opening for the light.
Have you thought about installing something on the front of the center console?

Ambient lighting
I ordered a ambient light kit from my dealer. It comes with two small bulbs made for the cup holders and two footwell lights. It is a easy install, I dont remember the exact price I want to say $230.
